The Manager of Integrated Services

What today is Fit For Purpose

wraps tomorrow's fish and chips.

Last year dresses skimmed the surface

now they barely hide the hips

of The Manager of Integrated Services.

With nothing of a knowledge base

she compensates with fashion sense;

the hollow-headed carapace

that's hanging from the clothing pegs

is The Manager of Integrated Services.

Her Mission Statement says she lives

in blue sky thoughts outside the box,

she substitutes communities

with parking lots and office blocks

where The Manager of Integrated Services

is jargonised, her role's to find

Inclusive Social Partnerships;

there isn't any other kind

of language that can pass the lips

of The Manager of Integrated Services.

Directives and Core Strategies

terminate Day Centres.

There's nowt to do on Saturdays

'cept populate the census

for The Manager of Integrated Services.

Elective Pathways take her straight

past places destined for the axe

lest residents regurgitate

their medication on the stats

of The Manager of Integrated Services.

Take up thy beds and scarper fast

called Jesus to the sick and lame;

he'd read The Patients' Charter that

was written in the name

of The Manager of Integrated Services.

The way to treat a poorly state

is lay it out and carve it up,

let market forces clean the plate

and put aside the biggest cut

for The Manager of Disintegrated Services.

Very very clever Ray - and brilliant social commentary. It's all been said before. The last verse is magnificent in ramming home the message of all the points you've made - I want to stand up and applaud. x

Excellent - love all the public sector speak. How cleverly and wisely said, Ray.

I like the parody and the sardonic use of public sector jargon in this. It makes you think. How did everything go so very wrong?

Amusing but insightful and wickedly clever!
A rather wonderful social comment!

Enjoyed this, Ray. It reminded me of Jim Hacker as the Minister for Administrative Affairs.

You start with a hefty, homely, two-line punch to the brain cells, and then you never let up. This is not just poetically dexterous, it is witty in the finest sense of clever.
