Apples and Pears

4 bloody a.m.
in the morning,
yet again,
eyes drooping.
Most definately Insane.

So mum would say,
once back in the day.
'get thee to bed love'
in a not so subtle way.
It would be more like
get to **** sleep
and i'd crawl
and yawn
my way up the stairs.
and snuggle
and cuddle
up to my teddy bears.

4 bloody thirty
in the morning,
and another 30 years,
no mum to say
get up them **** stairs.

So I stall, and I wait,
for that first streak
of daybreak,
and fitfully doze,
in that sleep-wake state,
and wait for the crows,
and the whispers above
to shout 'mummy up-wake',
and the 'devils incarnate'
will run down the stairs
and mush my poor head
to ripe apples and pears.

And for a **** minute
I think I prefer mum's
'get up the **** stairs'.

( the new profile picture was painted by my mum, she has done a series of original copies - sort of with her own theme - of which I keep religiously absconding with on every visit )

I can certainly identify with the feelings in the poem Nicky - you and I have just been there too many times...
Long gone are the days when I can enjoy long stretches of restful unbroken sleep even when the kids aren't jumping up and down on me. Once you have children, compress too much into too little, you kind of lose the ability to switch off.

Hi Nicky... I loved it too.....All mums can identify with the 4 30 touch... a bummer when your counting the hours down when you have to get up for work!!
