Corner Man

Man on the corner

all wrinkled up

brown as dirt

got a cardboard sign that says

Please Help

he goes down the line

crazy lookin'

people roll up their windows

hear click

lock their doors

watch him now

in the rear view

till he gets to the end

and comes back around

hope the light changes

before havin' to deal

with him

he ain't homeless

he's shiftless

says the man

give him a dollar

says the woman

man guns it

ain't nobody rippin' me off

we gotta get to Walmart

they got a sale on

ridin' lawnmowers.

Great little poem that speaks to the heart. So busy with me that i can't see you.

Great stuff, highlights the fact that so many folk only worry about themselves and their needs(?) - perfectly emphasised here by the need to buy a ride on mower....

So easy to ignore others, even those whose plight isn't obvious.

Nice work...

Cheers

Nothing induces heartache like those who are cast aside and their plight trivialised. Powerful.

I think this has a sort of Bukowski feel to it, bleak and ironical. Nice touch the lawnmower - everything has to look right with some people.

Very nicely put. How easy it is to judge others, their circumstances and what they are like but what we think we see outside our own little worlds.

Nice one

I like the way you made the 'action' short and sharp. No extra fill-in stuff. Bare bones. I was drawn in to the very end. ?
