Goldfish
Goldfish
Oh fish of gold
it goes to show
what is endured
as life unfolds
go round and round
till you grow old
a lonely soul
inside a bowl.

Well said! This reminded me of why I have never bought a goldfish!
I loved this poem, thanks ?
I like the theme - a neat summation of the futility & cruelty
of imposed solitude in the natural world (parrots excepted
perhaps as they seem to have no problem with the limits of their cages - even heading back inside of their own volition).
Don - Old English? My own gut feeling is "Alimentary, it isn't!" - even from an Aussie (or Yank?). ?
But Brian didn't you know 'bowel' is Old English for 'bowl'.
Even Aussies know this ?
Liked the pun, presumably it is one?

Knapey...I don't think it would be very comfortable in a bowel!
