Absolutely, although there are definite answers for that particular conundrum depending on whether you believe in one of the the conventional monotheistic creeds or not. If you do then it's the chicken, if you don't, then it's the egg. :)

As regards your comment on 'English Stoicism', I believe it is the people that define the land more than the land defines the people. I could be wrong but that's my perspective on it, I mean, it's arguable that we try to attribute meaning to things that really have none and have thusly turned to all types of beliefs in order to justify those meanings but I don't think that a giant lump of rock really affects the overall character of its inhabitants.

I took the opportunity to look at your page and enjoyed your entries but was surprised that your poetry has such a theme of sadness in it. Judging by your picture you seem too young to court sadness.

The ending of the poem is supposed to reflect a little bit of natural doubt that his needs are truly met. Sorry if that's not clear, it kinda makes sense to me. :-)

As for the nose cutting thing, its an old joke with bro n me, he once did it by accident when playing a joke on me and Ive never let him forget it. Wigan is around halfway up the M6, it gets a poor rep because the majority of the people who live there are hardworking, honest and friendly. Descended in the Main from gritty mine workers, millwrights, blacksmith’s and carpenters. In other words people familiar with integrity and community spirit, as oppose to the soft skinned pencil necked thieving pen pushers that seem to be rampant down South. ha ha I enjoyed that rant ;-))) The gas towers on the railway and ‘ The road to Wigan Pier’didn’t help though.TC X

Hi, thank you for taking the time to read my poem and comment, I have always struggled to look poverty full square in the eye, I have worked in some deprived places too, Nigeria probably being the worst I will never get used to it. I am not keen on London either it is an unfriendly place from my experience, you should come to Wigan there is only the odd busker or two in the town centre ;-)) TC

Have only just found out that you are female - your name sounds a bit adrogynous - I always assume people are male and your poetry dosn't give anything away. Used to live around London myself some time ago. Have plenty of friends down there - perhaps I'll make some of the poetry venues one of these days...

Thank you for your comment on Coming Home and also Alfie. I might just take Chris Co up on his suggestion and blog the latter - it is my favourite and has a lot to say.
Coming Home was about a failed emigration, marriage and life... Having read through it again, I can see that it works just as well for a soldier coming home to family - particularly if he questions the validity of the war he fought in and why he fought for so long. I am really glad that the poem works on so many levels. Thanks for the time you took to read it. I am now going to comment on your latest. I hope you won't see this as tit for tat - I had already scan read it and agree so much with the sentiments in it - I just find the number of blogs going up overwhelming sometimes - impossible to keep up. xx
