From Heart To Zero

Fires burn hot but rarely last

What remains is just embers

Our own love-volcano cooled

I wonder if Julie remembers

 

She went from heart to zero

Furnace turning to ice floe

Soul out of fuel and cooled

Flames flickering with woe

Blew cold with the best

All or nothing the norm

From the start she struck me as sturdy

Her dress always seemed to rustle

Too late I found what was underneath:

Ten stone of sinews and pure muscle

 

Now I was never known as a weakling

My pecs were moderately developed

Yet no man of modest stature could cope
