Sleep Tight (rehashed)
It is the night of Halloween
time for the spookiest party of all
Stars imitate blinking disco lights
the full moon a sparkling glitter ball
The dance floor crunches under stomping feet
a crisp carpet of Autumn leaves
Pumpkin lanterns glow by candle light
tangled cobwebs hang down from the eaves
The walking dead dance with the devil
witches recite rhyming spells in tune
Vampires flas...

Extra Hour (A Repost)
Tonight the clocks go back an hour
this time comes around every year
The long days of Summer have gone
the long nights of Winter draw near
The clocks fall back every Autumn
the clocks leap forward in Spring
It is not that much of a problem
until some instructions go missing
Take each room and clock in turn
every house forgets at least one
It's December when it gets noticed
by then ...

Autumn Razzle Dazzle
Autumn trees razzle dazzle
in vibrant shades of copper and gold
A last blast of warm colour
before the chill of winter takes hold
The harsh wind whips up a storm
the season ends in a wild frenzy
To mark this grand finale
leaves fall like glittering confetti

Rick Astley
Heading over to Leeds
on a cloudy grey Autumn day drive
Hope it’s fifth time lucky
we get to see Ricky Astley live
A cancelled Take That gig
and a moment of parental pride
Two pandemic postponements
we took them all in our stride
We never gave up hope
and now the day is finally here
We are not going to be let down
of that there’s no fear

Dalyan
Our first trip to Dalyan
made for a nice surprise
The magical river setting
a treat for our eyes
On the winding waterway
day boats lined up one by one
Captains promoting their tours
promising hours of fun
Backdrop of ancient rock tombs
carved into the sheer cliff face
A grand and imposing sight
in this remarkable place
We took the river taxi
to a protected strip of land
A ...

An Eerie Scene
A crispy layer of fallen leaves
slowly begins to grow
Underneath the shedding Autumn trees
a carpet forms below
Grey mist envelops naked branches
forming an eerie sight
It would take a brave soul walk this way
come this Halloween night

Yorkshire Scene
This mornings glorious sunrise
over this typical Yorkshire scene
Miles and miles of grey dry stone walls
dividing lush, rolling fields of green

Autumn Scene
A late September morning stroll
foliage flutters down on the breeze
Crisp new floor crunches underfoot
the sun’s spotlight filters through trees
Leaves cascading like confetti
lay a carpet of golden snow
Autumnal scenes in the woodland
where trees perform their final show

New York Asters
These vivid magenta pink stars
with a luminous golden heart
Lighting up my Autumn garden
like glowing neon works of art

Asters
In the early morning sunlight
bright, vibrant cerulean glow
Dazzling, delightful display
striking stars of the garden show
A wreath of blue slender petals
surround the centre of light gold
This sea of daisy like flowers
make a splash of colour so bold

Roses
The last blooms of summer
yellow, ivory and creamy
Fresh rose scent fills the air
perfumed, fragrant, sweet and dreamy

Besides The Sea
The morning sun is high
glimmering brightly though tall trees
The lapping sea glistens
shimmering lightly on the breeze

Rainbow Sunset
Fluffy pink candy floss clouds
in a sugar almond blue sky
A rainbow sherbet sunset
bids the daylight hours goodbye
The sea is calm and peaceful
the yachts and day boats come and go
The seafront is bustling
as folk capture the evening glow
Cherishing this familiar scene
whilst sharing an ice cold Efes beer
At last at our Turkish home
thankful to finally be...

A Month Of Mixed Emotions
A month of mixed emotions
the right words so hard to find
Through the most difficult days
hard to leave loved ones behind
Our travel plans were set
before receiving bad news
Decisions had to be made
there was no right way to choose
We kept our travel plans
with an option to review
Four weeks in our Turkish home
we had been looking forward to
Home was in our hearts and minds

Testing Times
Remembering the good old days
when travelling was fun
All you had to care about
was not getting too much sun
To travel in these times
has become a bit of a chore
Tests and forms take up your days
and are a bit of a bore
Testing, testing, testing
PCR or lateral flow
Please fill in your locator form
to keep us in the know
Tell us where you are coming from
and where you are g...

Saturday Morning Sailing School
Saturday morning sailing school
small white boats line up one by one
The sea is still, calm and tranquil
under the bright October sun
Voices carry on the slight breeze
as the young children have their fun
We stand and watch for a short while
as they follow on one by one
We carry on with our walk
on our return they are done
As sailing school comes to an end
small white boats line ...

Gem Of A View
Here we stop just for a moment
to admire this gem of a view
Where the sea sparkles like diamonds
above the deep sapphire blue
Villas spread across the hilltops
like small clusters and rows of pearls
Pink ruby Bougainvillea
twisting into colourful swirls
Casting a molten golden glow
the topaz sun dazzles the sky
Trees and shrubs shimmer emerald green
sandy beaches glisten where dr...

Yellow Summer Sky
As the yellow summer sun sets
and the evening comes our way
The clouds appear as inky swirls
at the end of a perfect day
The mirror sea reflects the sky
and the towns twinkling street lights
As the orange glow slowly fades
at the start of a perfect night

Far Side Of The Bay
We chose to take a new route
for our morning walk today
It led us past Xuma beach
across the far side of the bay
We reached a small shingle beach
with some fishing boats nearby
The sea calm as a millpond
reflecting the clouds and blue sky
There was a little cafe
wafting scent of fresh toasted bread
We resisted temptation
had water and coffee instead
It was such a lovely wa...

For Jake
Who could know on that morning
the angels would call your name
Who could know from that day forward
our lives would never be the same
---------------
It’s impossible to find the right words
to express the pain and sorrow
to say how much you will be missed
every day and each tomorrow
As a baby you arrived early
as a young man taken far too soon
for all those years in between
