100 Days of Lockdown

A hundred days since lockdown began, stockpiling days seems so long ago.

Rationing of pasta, toilet rolls, hand sanitiser, the empty shelves full of woe.

Non essential shops closed along with gyms, restaurants, bars and schools.

Only two persons allowed together, was just one of the new lockdown rules.

A tired nurse went to the shop and broke down, she cried in sheer desperat...

Get Me Out Of Here

This year for my holiday,

I thought I wouldn't go very far.

Instead of taking a flight,

perhaps I would travel there by car.

I could holiday in the UK,

Scotland, Wales or down south.

Due to recent events,

I won't be heading to Bournemouth.

I watch the news in horror,

what happened to common sense.

Who are all those people,

are they actually all that dens...

Lockdown Shopping Revised

I saw it on Lorraine last week,

the fashion bit on GMB,

from that very moment,

I knew it was the dress for me.

Mark Heyes said it was a bargain,

win win, it was in the sale,

even better, I thought,

you can't beat a bargain rail.

I took myself to Primark,

queued two metres apart,

as I got near the front,

I could feel my beating heart.

Once inside, ...

Lockdown shopping

Today I went shopping,

lockdown shopping is hard.

Queue up just to take a look,

changing rooms are barred.

Today I bought a new dress,

I must admit it isn't quite right.

It is just a little bit too small,

only a teeny tiny bit too tight.

Today I made a promise,

to eat healthily all next week.

I will not raid the biscuit tin,

I will turn the other cheek.

The "Tourons" Great Day Out

Touron........A tourist who unfortunately also happens to be a moron!

The “Tourons” made up a picnic of all their favourite food and drink,

they brought along everything from home except the kitchen sink.

Bags bursting with goodies, enough to see them through the day,

but they left behind the empty packaging for others to throw away.

So much effort taken to pack everything...

It is Rubbish

It really is so rubbish, to see all the rubbish

left in parks, on the beaches and everywhere

What gives people the right to think it is right

to leave it behind without consideration or care

I just do not understand people who leave litter behind

I just can not comprehend what goes on in their minds

Turn that frown upside down

Frowning can be infectious

you can spread it like the flu

when you frown at someone

they may reflect it back at you

Do you want to wear a frown

or do you really want it gone

When you feel sad and down

do you really want to pass it on

One sad face bearing a frown

could soon get the world infected

so turn that frown upside down

do not leave it uncorrected.

Independence (Relaxing lock down measures) Day

Saturday

July 4th Independence (relaxing of lock down measures) day,

so what will we all be doing from next Saturday?

A night in the pub, a two household bubble can mix,

sit in the beer garden, do not socialise out of your six,

Sunday

Attend a morning service at your place of worship,

back in time to clear the garage and a trip to the tip.

Invite the family around...

Happy Fathers Day

To all the Dads, Grandads and Husbands,

Happy Fathers Day to you.

Today is the day we show our appreciation

for everything you do.

Gifts, cards and messages of thanks,

will be sent across the nation.

Gather together if you can, if not,

maybe a virtual celebration.

A difficult day for those whose

loved ones are no longer here.

Reminiscing on happy memories

Mum To The Rescue.. Well At Least I Tried

10pm, 18th of June,

I receive a message from my Son.

Hi Mum it's me,

can you help me get something done?

No problem Son,

I'll do it tomorrow, no need to worry.

No Mum,

it's very urgent, I need it doing in a hurry!

I switch on the laptop,

log on,

find the relevant file.

I read, scan and photocopy,

I type,

this takes quite a while.

The de...

Congratulations, Marcus Rashford

Congratulations, young footballer, Marcus Rashford.

Your earnest campaign has certainly struck a chord.

The appeal acknowledged and backed by our state.

Forcing a government U-turn and a political debate.

Praise and adoration was not your intention to seek.

The easy option, you could have turned the other cheek.

A sincere letter was composed and signed in your name.

four men involved in a fight.

Mobile phone footage provided,

If Foxes Wore Gloves

Gazing at the sunrise, as a new day breaks the dawn,

bleary eyes fixate towards the distant edge of my lawn.

The speckled common foxglove, sturdy, strong and tall,

a spike of colour backdropped by a grey, dry stone wall.

Lost deep in absent minded daydream, I begin to think,

if foxes wore gloves would they be purple, white or pink?

Early birds catch worms for hungr...

It's The Simple Things

Today we heard from old friends, newly arrived back in town.

We exchanged good wishes, recent news and tales of lock down.

A much welcomed diary date, arrangements made for Sunday.

Lunch and a long walk planned, so for good weather we pray.

This phone call cheered us up no end, coming out of the blue.

For three long months, an empty diary, filled with nothing to do.

Why Worry

I worry about everything, all of the day

I worry about everything, all I do and say

Do I really care if I get it wrong?

Moonlit Garden

What hides amid the darkness,

absent of the sunlight,

In the dimly moonlit garden,

deep into the night.

Yesterday's glimpse of a weasel

hiding in my well,

led me to wonder, a curiosity

I need to quell.

I may set up a night cam,

to snap jumping frogs

and capture the visitations

from prickly hedgehogs.

Hopeful there would be a fox,

Short Funny Poems

What is happening to our world?

What is happening to our world?

Is it spinning out of control?

Mass devastation and chaos, seem to be the ultimate goal

What is happening to our world?

The fear messes with my head

I want the uncertainty to cease, the news fills me with dread

What it happening to our world?

When will this nightmare end?

Has the deadly corona virus recruited a new evil friend?

Dear Kate

Dear Kate

The challenges of the jungle, have stood you in good stead

little did you know back then, a greater battle lay ahead

As a celebrity in the jungle, your personality shone through

supported by your lovely family, justifiably, so proud of you.

despite the pain and suffering, you still managed to raise a ...

A Stroll Around Kirkby Lonsdale

A stroll around Kirkby Lonsdale with me

Take-away a bacon butty and a cup of tea

Start at Devils Bridge among the motorbikes

This is where we will begin our short hike

The pathway along the River Lune is our walk

Ending up the Radical Steps, breathless, unable to talk

A view made famous by Ruskin and Turner long ago

Across to Underley Hall and the Lune Valley below

Take That Lock Down Gig (In Case You Missed It)

No ticket stress, no queueing at the gate or arena door

A concert like no other we have ever attended before

The front row of my kitchen, sat in my favourite chair

Glass of wine, singing loud, waving my arms in the air

Take that, reunited, straight from their home into mine

The Greatest Day of lock down, together they did Shine
