Change a Letter
Yes, its time for an old chestnut to revive an dying discussions area!
Change just one letter in the word below (without changing the order or repeating) to create a new word.
One go per person... how many will contribute? One or One Hundred? (There are over 800 poets profiles in our showcase).
And don't drive this thread into a dead end!

oh bloody hell, you set a simple task and people just go off on one! I started this and therefore I will adjudicate, (Much blustering / stomping and gnashing). And yes, All the usual suspects have shown up (or shown themselves up, or let themselves down, or let WOL down, and in doing so let the whole world wide web down!) Now children, this is what we have so far (and no arguing) (TIC) The Headmaster -

There was this girl in a sexy COAT
who took a ride in a little BOAT
she met this guy who was a real BRAT
but she thought "Well, at least he's a blue blood BRIT"
his love for her got full to the BRIM
Cos she was so groovy and pretty and TRIM
sadly her virtue took a TRIP
she fell into the parent TRAP
they call her a bike or an old TRAM
cos now't poor lass is pushin' a PRAM!

ps I'm guessing that Tommy's word meant arab - which was a perfectly valid contribution - though I'm not sure what the rest of it meant. I'm not voting for a change though since I like the turn of events. Up the revolution!

How about DRAB Winston? I don't know about driving it into a dead end but I think you are definitely taking away some of the lustre by restricting it to one entry per poet. Not that many poets are particularly active on here and of those not that many get involved in discussion.
I guess you started the thread so you make the rules. I'll go away and start a revolution in Bolivia...
(exit stage, stamping foot and huffing and puffing)

@Isobel Arab and the French is for Winston's pique of petulance and involves a body part and a geometrical shape that has problematic junctures.

We might need some Scot's folk to help us with the next bit. I would offer a Scot's word...and being Scots by birth would feel entitled...but, obviously, as one has shot one's bolt (Winston rules) one would hesitate to suggest that a bunch of Scots who might be related in some way, would be the obvious next word...or not....as the case may be.

Mon, 1 Nov 2010 05:38 am
No - you are a bit adrift with MERMAIDS Ann - too many letters and nothing like the last one (CRAN) - can I remind you that you aren't allowed to contribute anymore either - so no spelling it out...
Sticking with the sea theme, I suppose we could still have the crustacean - sometimes found on fishy grassy knolls...
Oh come all ye fresh faced newbie poets - give us some 4 lettered poetry.

Hi! I am in fact Ann Foxglove's twin sister Pam Sproxglove and I say the answer is . . . . OH NO! That Winston's just put a carrier bag over my head and I'm being bundled into the boot of a car and . . . (she was never seen again - thank god!)
Mon, 1 Nov 2010 07:31 am
I think we should have a new rule written into the constitution - no sisters allowed to participate - even inebriated poetic ones...
All other types of insurrection welcome - you really can't beat a big insurrection.

I am planning a new thread distantly related to this one . . . SCRABBLE!!!!! But don't tell Mr Plowes!
Mon, 1 Nov 2010 06:55 pm
BECAUSE I think it's time he realised that out of the eight million members of WOL, there are always going to be about 13 who are bored/intelligent/nosey/into everything and totally bonkers enough to participate! And of course I am only talking about myself here! (Except the intelligent bit!) xx

Moxy, your Cyan attempt has changed 2 letters (following from our last valid entry of BRAN from Greg) and therefore all your other efforts are invalid. Have another go (ONE go!) Win

Ah ha -- I only changed one letter, not two. Here's Mr Alkman's procrastinated/alluded 'CLAN'!

Whereabouts in Bolivia are you starting your insurrection, Isobel, I think I shall join you? ;D

What we have here, Win, is a Sliding Doors phenomenon. I have followed Jon's allusion rather than the Greg's later 'Bran' so:
CRAN to CLAN to CYAN etc is valid in the forked path.
I took the Hight Road and you took the Low Road and I'll be in Somewhere afore ye. M x

Trust Gus to plunge in deeply with his visionary use of the english language... and since Winston seems to favour him, we shall not go braless.
Bolivia is a hostile place Moxy - I decided to come back and do some more bear baiting.
I must say though - in all honesty - Win has given us a lot of entertainment - much of it quite deliberate, I'm sure!
