Editing poems issue

Nauseating Deja Vu is definitely a problem for me, but I'm not sure whether this would be a solution.

Hi Chris

This has been a problem for some time. and has come up before, not sure if tech support can do anthing to help. Even if it were the case that altered blogs never jump to the top then those wishing (for whatever reason) for their post to do so could cut and paste and pepost as if it were new.

I totally agree with your post

Hi Chris I agree. I have been 'guilty' of such. 'edit only' 'button may be an answer.

I very much want the privilege of editting a 'blogged' poem without jumping to the front. The new button on Poetry Comments is fabulous. I can re-read and assess the content before firing off. I alter my initial comments often, after checking to see how they might be misinterpreted in writing as opposed to speech, where 'the twinkle in my eye' wouldn't be obvious. Aaahhhh ..Tone...tone...tone!

It probably isn't worth getting too paranoid about this issue. I've seen people apologising for it, who hardly ever post anything and very rarely update after posting. I can think of one poem (Red Shoes) when I did a lot of updating cos people kept giving me suggestions - it must have been seriously flawed - tee hee. On the whole though, most of us don't do it to a horrendous degree. Multiple blogging is my biggest dislike - five, six or seven poems all posted at once is overkill - no matter how much I like the poet.

Agree, Isobel and Gus. I have spells when I write, and must say that If I post a few in a week then I feel a little guilty, and my typing is not always spot on because I am doing other things whilst posting, so if there's a typo, I cringe that it goes back to the top of the pile.

Gus - you are a scream. 'raining grey charity shop shirts' had me laughing out loud! Am so sorry I can't make Middleton - was out last night and can never make 2 on a run. Instead I will be on the couch watching X factor plus - my kids are hopelessly addicted. I am armed with a large glass of red wine which will hopefully anesthetise the pain of watching that smug faced killer of magical music - Simon Cowell....

Would agree whole heartedly with any innovation that increased WOL funds and made people think a bit more about what they posted. Also look forward to hearing more about your BRASS event Nicky.

Gus
How much per blog? I'd gladly join in.

What if one doesn't pay? Will we be cut off in our prime?

Well , Steve,how about a flat rate?
I dont advocate a BOGOF ( "blog one get one free" in this case)
or a blog by date.
However, should there be a reduction for rhyming verse,
a fine for typing errors or worse?
Perhaps fines beyond a number of lines,
or counting the number of letters might be better.
Lastly, should the comment or review actually be linked to the revenue?!

for those who post in poetry...like you.

or is it only me?

ok smart alecs, how about: -

We could name and shame
Those who never play the game.
And what of those who chose
To put their thoughts in prose?
I do believe, that in the fullness of time
Discounts could be applied for rhyme.
Could payment be made on a poetry meter?
Or should we pay by millimetre?
For typing errors, or worse,
The price could be an extra verse.

Any furtehr ideas welcome
;-))

Some people are on benefits and would find charges for posting hard - how about a voluntary scheme? Not sure whether it should be opt-in or opt-out, but the expectation would be that if you were in work, you paid to blog.

£1 seem a reasonable figure for posting a blog. Then if someone wanted to post a second blog on the same day, it could cost £2 (whether or not they're in the scheme!), £3 for a third post and so on. That would either stop multiple blogging or fill WOL's coffers.

Either that or a rolling monthly membership fee that included so many blogs per month may be an idea, that would limit the number of blogging space available to each member, reduce multiple blogging and maybe improve the quality of the blogs by reducing the quantity, and put some extra funding into the WOL coffers.

Even if this was even a token fee of £2-£3 a month (which I think is easily affordable to all ) with maybe discount for annual membership, if you think there are 600plus members which increases daily. I think that maybe £1 per blog could be an administration nightmare - just an idea.

When I posted my
first poem to the nation
I thought I ought to
consider a donation.
I asked my wife for her opinion
(as the price per verse was from her purse)
She read it through, and thought, and then her
suggestion was
'It's worth a tenner'.

A tenner then was duly paid
and now I am a 'published poet'
A minor one, I'll give you that
Not one to whom you'd doff your hat
But, how many other bedroom bards
Have set their stall
Or played their cards?
A fraction of them, I would bet
If only up on t'internet
And now fame beckons, I am sure
(not opaque and n'er obscure)
And if my powers one day ebb
I'll still be on the World Wide Web.

This thread began with editing
But shifted to discrediting
those who post too many blogs
repetitive as a chorus of frogs
but now we seem to have a plebicite
or how to fund the actual webbisite?
If the website costs a lot to run
a membership fee might help it run.
I find it all a bit confusing
and not amusing
to be told we should all be making donations
with no financial information
I shall have to end this horrible doggerel.
before my mouth is stuffed with boggroll!
(o-o) ?

(this thread is getting out of hand)

Chris I agree and understand,
We need a new editing system,
and these multi-blog-addicts should be banned
but its not there fault (God bless them).

freda, maybe you are right and the voluntary donation scheme should have a more dominant place on the front page.

If this were termed voluntary membership would more donations be forthcoming? Win

It might be quite fun if we could edit other people's content...not just our own.
