SUE - REMEMBERING A MUCH LOVED DOG

Sometimes, alone, I see her face,

I hear her on the stair;

I hold my arms out to embrace my Sue

And she is there.

The loving laughing eyes I knew

Look back into my own,

And all the warmth and giving too

Are all that I have known.

I hold her tight within my mind

And stroke her gentle face,

But all too soon she's gone I find,

And I hold empty space.

But I know that Sue waits for me,

She's merely gone ahead;

A guardian in eternity,

She waits beside my bed.

When my time comes, I'll see her face,

I'll hear her on the stair;

I'll hold my arms out to embrace my Sue

And she'll be there.

Ray - liked it better to continue the flow in the one sentence. And I will happily defy "expectations" on occasions.

Don't like dogs myself but appreciate the sentiment. Why leave "my Sue" hanging on the ends of 3rd lines when, by rights, it should be starting the 4th?

Yes, its simplicity is its strength, heartfelt and true. And the sentiments could refer to people too you know! (Of course you know.)

What a lovely way to think about a much loved pet! Sometimes strong feelings are best expressed in simple terms and forms. This poem works so well. I loved it. X X

Beautiful poem, MC. I feel much the same way about my own beloved departed dogs. Enjoyed x
