KALMAR SUMMER SONG

(Peregrinatio Sweden)

Summer`s sleeping on Kalmar sound,

Soft now! Lest you disturb her

All the forest is hushed around

No dark dreams perturb her.

Hear how softly her breathing sighs

Grace of lazy sail tilting

Peaceful murmur, half swells, then dies

Hush-a-bye, lull-a-bye lilting.

Lone cloud drifting through the sky

White hull lifting and dipping

Stately swan slowly moving by

Murmur of quiet wake slipping.

Tall girl standing at the prow,

Wide eyes forward and glistening

All the south gentling round her brow

Young heart eager and listening.

(Winter window-child through the snow

Crown of Lucy-light gleaming

Through her eyes in the candle glow

Child-soul wistfully dreaming)

Mother Mary your warm cloak fold

Close round hearts that are needing

Warmth and shelter from the cold,

Grant this people their pleading

Agree with the other comments, Harry. This is beautiful and "gentling" - lovely word!

In my mind I can hear the lazy sail flapping.
(And do you hear my hands? They're clapping!)
Superior stuff.

Thanks everyone for your encouraging comments.

Revised it by including an extra stanza, and largely de-comma - ing it. And taking out the superflous`hush`.

Thanks again to all...Love ya!

Nice one, Harry.I like the 3rd verse best. gentling is a lovely word and not seen out much. I think you've gone overboard with the commas, though.

A vintage piece from you, Harry - totally agree with what the others have said.

I like the gentle rhythm of this. You could also call it Slumber Song it has such a peaceful lilt. So full of soft sounds and sleepy verbs. All the 'l' sounds - definitely a lullaby.
Love it.XX

Harry, this is incredibly moving, so beautiful, so sad.
