Dear Valkyrie
Where did that come from?
Anyway, thanks for the amusing 'comment'.
A sign of my old age? But I really did see a small child (or maybe a midget) on patrol in the middle of Huddersfield, in the middle of this week. Well, that's what I think I saw.

Re Your comments on the audio on 'On Seeing A Boy's Face'Glad you liked it Ann. I have used it before (as has garside if I remember rightly) It is derived form an onlne piece of software that converts text to speach. You may need to spell words differently to get the voice to pronounce the words as you want them however and alter gaps and pauses etc. I used it here because I felt the faltering awkwardness and non human remoteness of this voice reflected the difficult subject I was writting about. It is a voice without empathy or opinion. Win

Hi Ann, Ta 4 the feedback on "Grieve Voyeur". I think the point I was making is that if you go from being a morbid spectator to a paid counsellor in order to fulfill a need to experience grief there comes a time when you are going to get rumbled. I am sorry you didn't pick this up.I will have to rethink the draft.
Kind Regards, Neil

Noticed that you are a Nick Drake fan (in another thread). He will be played at my funeral...along with John Martyn and Joe Satriani (it's 'one on the way in...one in the middle, and one on the way out...) although, if the rules permitted, I could easily have three from any of them.... It's a game we play on long journeys. My choices have been the same for many years.

What's your favourite?

..hello Ann..thank-you..I used the blackbird for two reasons..if 'man' disappears from the planet all the flora and fauna and planets will carry on regardless, they have no interest in any religion, and I've never seen a blackbird being instructed on how to build a nest, we don't understand how they know..therfore they are an obvious creature to take us by the hand and explain the universe, something no 'man' will ever be able to do.

Hi Ann,
thanks for commenting with your thoughts on Snow People poems.
It's the kind of comment i was hoping for.
The first is my first draft and as it came out on paper. The second is when i started messing around with it. I'm hopeless at editing and often do too little or too much.

"It's steam trains, plugs and sockets they admire,
a trip to Wickes will really light their fire.
In boiler suites and steel toe caps they go,
a pencil stuck behind the ear - they charm me so!
Arms up to elbows in old oil and grease,
Swarfega like a perfume to their nose.
How I love men like those!"

Hi Ann,
I love the song too and I wish I could say that I was responsible for it in some was but alas, I cannot. Other than the title means the same as the title of my poem and I feel a deep connection to the song and her voice. I play the wooden flute though so maybe I could learn the song as well and put my version of it out there in cyberspace one day. Hope you're ok in this snowy weather : ) deb xx

Hi AnnRe Googlize. Actually wobble would not be allowed here. This one is taken from my calculator series. The alphabet used is derived from letters on a calculator read upside down. So 0 = o, 1 = i, 2 = z etc E,h,s,g,L,B follow. Here's another -

Zoo Shloo

Geese gozzle,
bees hibe,
hogs boss,
eels loobe.
Eggs.
Eggs…
Shhh
Eggs sigh.

Ann, I so know what you mean about the poem on the back of the fag packet syndrome. I wrote one in half an hour the other day while the kids were pestering me and I was hugely pleased with it. Others I work on, like really work and they just don't have that 'feeling'...weird innit!

Do you mind the fact that everyone always assumes that the poems we write are based on ourselves? This is such a strong, personal poem, but you could have invented the scenario. I feel that I'd like to write a poem and leave it open as to whether it is based on me and my experiences. If you write a novel about a mass murderer, people don't assume you are a nmass murderer. Or is it that poetry is always a sort of truth? Don't know. lotsoflove ;-)
Ann, couldn't agree more with your comments above posted on Rachels blog entry... thats what poets do isn't it? If people assume you are writting from personal experience then thats a bit of a leap surely? Win

Helloooo,
re your question about the reader assuming the poems are autobiographical, I don't particularly mind. It does feel a little exposing but it's my choice to post them on here isn't it? I admit some of my poems are autobiographical, some aren't, some of the things I write about happened to people I know but not to me personally. I think readers will always assume there's a back story themselves anyway whether that's poetry or prose. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness in asking me that by the way.
Love

Hi Ann, yes I did have a good Christmas, thanks, including a nice walk along the river beside Hampton Court! Hope you had a decent one too, and very best wishes for a happy and creative new year. My one worry is ... is it really wise to be undertaking a coastal walk in this weather? Hope you're keeping an eye on the forecasts ...
