Hi Tommy .. yes , I came across the photo of the gas chamber door and it said the word above might have been added later. I imagine a girl stumbling against the wood, so confusing is probably the correct interpretation.

HI Tommy THanks for the comments. Yes, go back and play Song for My father. The whole album and, of course, the title track are classic.

thanks for stopping by and commenting on 'the red regret of Thomas' Tommy - as you say, more to it than just religious imagery

I wasn't protesting, at all. I was confused, and then thought I'd guessed at what lay beneath your cryptic comment.
I'm shit at darts and I can't knit. Pool, but only if I can smoke inside the pub.

Tommy - think you may have misunderstood 'Environmental Intercourse'. It's satire.

Trust you to wait six months before hitting me with stand alone conjunctions!
The football`s on in a minute. What are you tryin` to do - spoil Saurez`s goals for me?
If I can figure them out I might reply :)

Hi Tommy,
Just seen your comment on my untitled poem ( about fucking ) Pardon my french ha ha Sometimes it's as much about releasing pent up agression and stress as it about emotion and 'relationships'. Not always 'making love' to use a corny phrase :-)

Hi Tommy I suppose I could have tried my photographer poem less enigmatic! It's Willi Ronis - although Cartier-Bresson was pretty close. There's a lot of his photos online, but unfortunately the one I refer to isn't to be found anywhere so I couldn't post it.

Her view at the time was undoubtedly coloured by the deeds which are conveniently forgotten
as history takes charge. But, as the saying goes; those who never change their minds, never correct their mistakes.
Mandela knew enough to be seen with her in
later days in very amicable circumstances that
continued thereafter. He too was a politician,
after all.

Thatcher called Mandela 'that grubby little terrorist' She used the Malvinas war to bolster sagging popularity- hey she did ok for her class.

TC - thanks for the reminders about Clem Attlee. I have a book full of old press cuttings when he was opposing MacMillan's enthusiasm for joining the Common Market. His defence of the interests of the Commonwealth (as was) was admirable. I recall a witty poem - supposedly from his POV - which finished with his personal status -a Knight of the Garter, an Earl and OM. A neat and funny bit of "so there!!"Thatcher's achievements were more on the international stage - hence her fame and popularity beyond these shores. When diverse figures of the stature of Gorbachev and Mandela were both happy to visit and shake her hand then she was clearly doing something right in the world.

Hey TC - it strikes me that those who are gleefully hitting on "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" seem aptly unaware that it will be forever associated with posturing loud-mouthed midgets.
Ding Dong...carry on.

Do you know Tommy - I've forgotten - but I think it was Ms Rachel Bond who read it out - so maybe she can fill you in. It was good - but I felt the message was a bit lost by trying to shock too much - they were probably looking for a reaction.
cheers
Ian

You make what seems to be, immediately, a valid point. But, I ask you to define 'poverty' as you understand and use the term. For therein lies the argument.

Tommy, you don't need to 'impress the reader', they are already impressed!
: )

PS and I still don't think the lines need an extra syllable, they work fine without it when I speak them out loud.
Love your stuff!

Like I said, Tommy, that's the problem with polaristion. Consider this; if the story had ended with the bobby nutting the collier would it have still been "an amusing anecdote"?

Tommy,
Thanks for your thoughts on "You've Met The Met".
Arthur Scargill didn't know a lot about the things he should have known about (Leadership, the tactics of a strike, etc). I certainly wouldn't trust his wisdom on things he knew nothing about (the science of fuel technology).
The problem with polarisation is that you necessarily see things depending on your own perspective as sitting between a set of cruel bastards and the horny-handed heroes. I can assure you there were plenty of cruel bastards among the blokes I worked with.

Thanks for your feedback on 'Mackerel In The Bath'. It was actually carbolic soap and a wire brush-but I couldn't get that to rhyme with 'feather'!

Newbury your ignorence nows no bounds- all alive to-day have a 'lineage' otherwise we wont be here now would we? and my ancestry dates back to the monkeis can you? and anyway my family have been dated back to 1698 as Thomas Quennell de Seavers, Lord high sheriff of Knowsley.

Everyone on the planet has an ancient history, and as I am considerably younger than you I have the longer lineage.

With a father who survived 1917-1918 in the trenches of WW1 and an uncle who was killed in action early in the same conflict...I was interested enough to ask Debrett to check our family history and so far both sides have been traced dating back many centuries in England. So - my "lineage" has been extensively proved by the experts since you mention it. Few can prove as much...and they, I strongly suspect, include you!
