Covering The Plants
Plants are friends
as close as kin
providing us with
beauty and grace
in summer
they enjoy the sun
giving off an aura
of happiness
in late Fall
when the weatherman
predicts a hard freeze
it is only right
that we come to their defense
against the coming coldness
so all are gathered
in a corner
and blanketed with old towels
and o...

DIVERSITY
I don't like the word Diversity
all it means now is
someone is not allowed to speak
because they are not
the right color
the right sex
the right race
the right minority
diversity now means silence
no one can have a different opinion
if so they are shouted down
and barred from speaking
as strange as that sounds
it is what is going on today
on...

Enjoying My Self
At Thanksgiving
everyone enjoyed themselves
and I enjoyed the day as well
but the biggest enjoyment
was Myself
I was so glad to be there
and so glad to be alive
for another great celebration
and I enjoyed my Self immensely
since there was a question
concerning my health
as to whether or not
I would be there at all
but I was
in living color
I was th...

Bathroom Candle
The candle glows
with lighted wick
on top the
bathroom cabinet
with trusty tool
I clicked my Bic
now fumes disperse
because of it
Oh candle you are
such a friend
unlike the candle
in the wind
your fame is not
of Hollywood
but simply put
you smell so good
The candle burns
aromas rise
is it Pine scent
or Apple Pie
who cares w...

Writing Out Loud
Happy Thanksgiving
this wonderful day
we thank all who read this
other poets who may
relate to our offering
take something away
and carry it with them
on this special day
There's no greater blessing
when what we have our say
gets so promptly posted
so quickly relayed
The art of our writing
makes us ever so proud
when our poetry's listed

MISTAKES
Life is full of mistakes
things we fumbled
things we were at fault at
things we never should have
said or done
things we are now ashamed of
things we dare not repeat
things we hide in our closet
things we push deep
into the darkest corners of our mind
hoping they will disappear
fade from memory
yet mistakes are our salvation
it's the only way w...

Success Rate
These poems
have proven to be 99.5% effective
in curing the blues
instilling laughter
postponing death
poetry overrides
the lack of zinc in your diet
also the lack of humor
in a humorless world
take one poem a day
on an empty stomach
they will settle your nerves
and fill the empty space in your life
if used on a daily basis
poetry can c...

NIGHTLIGHT
After 4 weeks of treatment
I am now fully radiated
as a result
I am taking on a new status
I am now a night light
I glow in the dark
I light the way for others
I illuminate the room
I shine my spotlight on laughter
my high beam turned on poetry
people follow my path in the halls
of their darkness
my red glow like a beacon
I am the light in
the automat...

LITTLE WREN
The little wren
returns again
it has become
our feathered friend
Taps at the window
as it lends
an inquisitive look
that makes us grin
With sudden move
from fence it trills
little wren departs
yet joy's instilled
It will be missed
will wait until
its cheer returns
to our window sill.

LEGACY
To plant a tree
it is believed
marks your existence
permanently
to give your heirs
a growing tree
means more than
any property
the tree will last
and outlive thee
a life embodied
by a tree
things nowadays
move rapidly
yet a tree persists
in permanency
your progeny
will honor thee
beneath the shade
of your own tr...

INSEX
We go outside to greet the sun
but insects swarm, bite neck and arms
we can't enjoy the garden lawn
when we are victims, preyed upon
Without insects, we would likely perish.
but in their webs how they ensnare us
they bite us bad, hurt and embarrass
from insect stings, oh kindly spare us.

Footprints On Our Floors
Foot markers
everywhere you go
footprint outlines on floors
the new universal sign of distress
the establishment is on top of it
steps are in place
to see those decals plastered
all over halls and lobbies
makes us feel better
those safety decals
tattooed on our floors
are supposed to be reassuring
yet no one observes the warning
and no one checks on comp...

My Teeth
My teeth
my teeth
are incomplete
my teeth
and gums
no longer meet
they took
my teeth
now I can't eat
of steak
is all
I ever think.

Little i
Take an i
see how small it is
hardly worth a notice
it's nothing like
it's grown up brother I
who lords it over other letters
and always comes first
pronouncing itself a capital
unashamedly bold and boastful
dominating whatever comes next
i like
the small letter better
it is unobstrusive and humble
it's the i that does not brag
or self-promote
it i...

Busy People
If there's a job
needed to be done
here's what you
need to do,
give it to
a busy person
they will
immediately pursue
While you
are still deciding
don't know what
to say or do
busy people
do not hesitate
before you know it
they are through
They have no time
for idleness
they're always
on the move
the job done right

Autumn Leaves
Leaves fall in Fall
appropriately
but leave debris
far as the eye can see
Leaves upon leaves
like waves in the sea
the more I rake
the more there be
Their mess exceeds
their dust excretes
let the wind transport
them across the street
Whisk them away
wished fantasy
else leaves become
the death of me.

Hope In Their Hearts
In the lobby
you see them
with canes and walkers
some in wheelchairs
being pushed by a caregiver
a husband a wife
a son or daughter
helping them to a chair
lovingly supporting them
with sympathy and companionship
someone to talk to
to ease their suffering
slowly they take their seats
and wait for their appointments
all are the victims of Cancer

The House Guest
I almost stepped on it
in the dark
I did not see it at first
it was just a silent form on the floor
my eyes still blurred from sleep
I thought it was some lint
or just some debris on the floor
but as I reached for it
it ran away
a lizard in the night
it was so fast I could not catch it
into the coat closet it went
never to be seen again
until...

Someone Said
Someone said
that someone said
then that becomes
what we are fed,
and based on that
we are mislead
the truth gets lost
when lies are read,
Repeating words
untruly said
apparently
is the new fad,
it's better if
we'd leave unsaid
and only say
the truth instead.

The Company of Crows
An early walk
in the calmness of morning
the crows are ever alert
they have seen me
in their woods
and caw the news
from treetop to treetop
a stranger is here
watch out
their call echos
from the tops of the trees
now full of autumn flare
the gold and orange
like a impressionist painting
it is an early start
to a perfect morning
enjoying the cool...

Two Days At A Time
I'm living my life
two days at a time
one would be fine
but two comes to mind
if you have two days
to get out of line
life is more humorous
so to two I'm inclined!

Taking Chances
Why do squirrels play tag with tires
always waiting until the last minute to
dash beneath a car
then emerging triumphant
out the other side
this is their Squirrelly habit
they play this game repeatedly
weaving between life and death
daring us to hit them
a moving target
while occasionally they fail
the evidence being their guts and fur
flattened on ...

A Place
I am looking
for a place
that is like no
other place
a place where
you don't have
to stay
in your place
but can be free
and always
with love
embraced
where with
God's grace
no one is ever
out of place.

Coin Toss
What was the cause of death?
always the question
9 out of 10 times
it is Cancer
or a heart attack
but in reality
it is time itself
that catches up with us
we always think
we have many more years
but we can only go so long
before the sands of time
tip the balance of the scale
time has a way of
sneaking up on us
yet we always expect tomorrow

Ode to Terry Quinn
Oh Terry Quinn
what a shape you're in,
your hair akin
to Boris's sin,
It may be wild
tossed in the wind,
Yet in the end
worth rememberin'!

Tree Stump---a poem by O.L.Buzzerd
When you get old
you repeat yourself
you say the same dang thing
over and over
until finally people get tired of hearin' it
and walk away
some even run when they see you comin'
they'd just as soon listen to static
but that's okay
by the time you get my age
it's all been said anyway
so it's best
to just not say anything at all
and sit there like a tree st...

Blue Moon
That full Blue Moon
was not what we expected
we expected it to be fuller
and closer
almost touchable
it had been given so much publicity
but it was not as advertised
it could have put on a better performance
given its star billing
it was disappointing to view
kind of a let-down given its build-up
no cheese
no cow or spoon
no man in the moon
next time ...
