Hello curious, I felt compelled to introduce myself after reading your profile as a result of seeing a comment you had left on a poem today. I instantly was captivated and intend to read all of your poems when I have the time, as I identify with your personal situation like a mirror image. I am a 58 year old Bi-sexual male who has been living a double life since the age of 9 years old. I am a father, have x wives, and x secret male lovers. Life has been a confusing, stressful, mess. And getting older, and still wanting a lover is a very lonely place. Only recently after beginning to express myself in poetry have I found peace, and contentment. Blogging my poetry on write out loud has changed my life. Many of my poems have a Bi-sexual theme, and I would like for you to read some. I think that you will find them very interesting. Here are three poems I suggest that you read. "Under the Bridge" "Caution! Door swings both ways", and "the Hook". By J.D. Bardo. Thank-you. looking forward to reading your work, both old, and anything new.

Dear Curious,
I read your biography with interest. I have been on WOL for over four years. I am a gay man, who by virtue of my sexuality have suffered a lamentable catalogue of abuse, prejudice, discrimination and violence, job loss and eviction. I am now 73 years old. A lot of what I have written here was in the past.

Your poems are of a high standard, which you really should pursue as it is also cathartic and comes from your inner self. You obviously possess courage to address your sexuality to your nearest and dearest. Stand up and be proud of your humanity, your personal dignity and courage, your sexuality and put pen to paper and write. You stand out as a unique and talented individual and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Tom,
Thanks for your message on my profile which I appreciate greatly. We seem to have a similar approach to the way we write poetry. The word inspiration is at the root of the matter. From where does this come? Is it random or formulated in the subconscious? I often pass through times of aridity then the opposite occurs and I find myself in full flood.

I enjoy your poetry. Never stop writing.

Since you are a vampire and you cast no shadow
Both you and your shadow are equally unreal.
But for ordinary mortals... both can be real or either can be fake.

A person could use dirt or charcoal to make a fake shadow.
A person could be dishonest in words or expressions.

Hi Keith,

I just spotted your comment on my profile, thanks for that. I think it was t'other Tom who commented on your recent poem, but I did read and enjoy it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and process. I genuinely find it really interesting and would love to grill more contributors about this stuff ?

Whilst I'm not able to write exclusively with a pen, I know that the sheer pleasure of writing with a fountain pen on paper is what got me to write many of my poems. It's such a nice experience it encourages you to write something, anything, and often in this process I'll discover a poem buried that I didn't know was in me. In an almost divine intervention, I found a fountain pen in the street aged about 20 and not long after found an empty notebook on a bus journey. It sounds daft really but it was like the universe handed me these tools. I've never since found either of these objects just lying in the street.

I think I take inspiration from many of the same sources as you and the initial ideas are usually dictated into my phone as I'm walking down the street. I'm polishing up a poem at the moment written entirely on a walk home from work where I was inspired by a smell (which is a new one on me, I think). I love your work and always keep en eye out for it - though must admit I've not had much free time to visit WoL of late but I hope that will change soon. All the best, Tom.

Tom,
Thank you for your comment on my recent poem "An Outlook"; for taking the time to read it and giving it a like.

I am curious about your profile, especially the last paragraph of your biography where you deal with the writing of poetry, the tools used and where the ideas for poems spring from. As someone advanced in age I still write my poems in long hand using a fountain pen. This is not because of some attachment to days past, but I believe that hand writing flows from the mind of the writer along the arm and into the hand. It is as if a connection exists which I do not experience when using a key board. Inspiration for my poetry is drawn from a number of sources often determined by subjects which interest me, such as spiritualty and the realm of the natural world and man's place in it. A spoken word, a piece of music, something I read, a passing thought or an observation triggers a response which ferments in my mind and invariably I am able to form words to express myself on paper.

Poetry is so highly subjective that it is impossible to explain only express what the writer wants to say. This is how I write. Whether I am a good poet must rest with the opinions of those who read my work and then I seek and appreciate their comments.

Hope this throws some light on your questions.
Keith

I've enjoyed your blog entries immensely. You may have noticed that only the most recent one is still shown in its entirety in the blog section, the others having been archived for one month underneath it. After that they are permanently archived under your profile and the monthly listing. In order to garner more views it is best to space out ones output to give other readers more chance to see your work. I hope this is useful.
