good for you for picking up litter.
i do the same, almost daily.
i carry my bags and collect trash as i walk,
and people think i'm crazy, but...
it's good exercise and good for the environment.

thanks for the comments on 'falling down the cracks...' Mark - I find myself falling behind in responding to comments again - so sincere apologies for my tardiness. Yes - the pain of diet and the sweet joy of a new pair of jeans - life is built around such small things :-)

thanks for your comments on 'a poppy in winter' Mark - I'm not really advocating the white poppy as the only form of remembrance - I think the red poppy is for that - the white poppy is more a reminder to think about peace when we remember. I wear both side by side because remembrance, on its own, is not enough for me
cheers

thanks for commenting on 'that which autumn leaves' Mark - I adapted it from a short story I wrote about 15 years ago - so, like a vampire, it's already had 3 lives in the form of short story, poem and audio - I guess I should get round to doing a video and give it another life :-)

Dear M.C. Thank you for taking the time to read my long long message! I do value well founded criticism, hence my message! And I hope I find a profession that offers me insights into the human condition too, it's ultimately what fascinates me the most. I guess that's where you get all your inspiration and, mind you, that is what I meant by "experience" . I hope my words didn't sound too much of an angry outburst! I'm not used to expressing my personal views, out loud, in English, unsolicitedly, and I hope I didn't scare you! Thank you for all the advice! I love your work and I hope I manage to write again something that you'll like! ?
P.S. I think kindness, the simplest thing, can be a lifebuoy when you're stuck in the quagmire of cynicism.
Mae

Dear M.C. Newberry, I was looking at our very short conversation in my profile and taking a second look at my response to your lovely comment on my poem "I can olerate Death" I realized that what I said was quite a humdrum thing to say! The truth is I'm not good at commenting,I'm not good with the literal things, I am also not very crafty with words, or precise, for that matter; sometimes I ask myself why I bother to write, and then I remember: It's cause I got things to say. I'm young, that may be obvious to you who from what I understand are very experienced but I've been places. Places a young person shouldn't pass by that early on and I've seen things. Things that most people see when the greater part of their life has passed things that a few lucky ones will never see. And yes, I got stuff to say. This I do. So thank you for your comment! appreciate it more than you know! And allow me to rephrase my response: Yes, death does intrude into our minds! But God damn it, at my last minute, right before He takes me away I still got the last say with my last words! If I manage to beat him with my words and with my actions he doesn't really have the last say. I'll fight him like hell and even if I lose I'll know that through my fight I will have showed much more power than the only one he hold over us! He only has the power to eliminate us but He can't shut our mouths or the mouths of the ones we leave behind. I urge whoever bothers to listen: Speak up! Write out Loud! because "scripta manent"! And If we have to go before our time, if we can't go in our own terms, if He tries His best to deprive us of the right to hold our heads high and humiliate us we can still go kicking and screaming! And our screams will not be pleas and whimpers and cries of cowardice! They will be glorious curses and triumphant battlecries! Death lasts only a second but our existence, if we are loved, if we have have loved, can last forever. So, since you quoted W.E.Henley I'd like to do so as well:
"It matters not how strait the gate,
how charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul!
P.S. Forgive my fixation. I'm new at exposing my work and any kind of feedback is much sought! And definately deserving something more than: "Live like there's no tomorrow!" True as it may be!
Thanx again!
Mae

Thanks for your very kind words on 'The Ship they call Alzheimer's'.
I do have an alternate Verse 9 (which I have used for a local Dementia support group).
Alternate verse (9)...
When you see me do impulsive things
Risks I normally wouldn't take
It's how I am my friend these days
All I'm asking is a break
As a performance piece the line with 'piss take' has the shock factor. Much appreciated M.C.

Here in the US, for a copyright to be seen as 100% valid and enforceable by US law, the work must be registered with the US Copyright Office for full protection, and more importantly to be able to bring a lawsuit for infringement should the need arise. As far as I know, the Berne Convention only dictates the bare minimum here in the US, has very little influence over the US Copyright's current decisions, and has more sway overseas for other signatory countries than it does for the US. The US didn't even join until like 100 years after it was implemented (which should tell you how backward everything is here).
https://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl100.html
http://www.sfwa.org/other-resources/for-authors/writer-beware/copyright/
https://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html
As a matter of fact, the Copyright Office even has an acknowledgement on their page that says a poor man's copyright (i.e. sending a sealed envelope to yourself) has no provision under copyright law here.
Yes they add that a work is copyrighted the second it is created, but to bring a lawsuit for infringement in this case, they require the work to be registered with them.
Hope this clears up some of the confusion, everything in the US is convoluted these days.

Hi, thanks for commenting "Geneva Airport" and telling your customs story. I have a similar tale: travelling across France in the last great heatwave (2005?), at a time when "Europe" meant that customs controls were no longer at the border, but instead they could stop you anywhere in the country. At a service station they stopped us in our clapped-out soft-top English Ford, me in full festival-hippy gear, my boyfriend (long hair, dark-skinned and bearded) bare-chested in shorts, and basically told us they WOULD find the drugs. They then set the dog to search the car ("find!" "find the drugs"! "go on boy!") before eventually leaving us alone. When we got back in the car we found it was full of dog hairs: I distinctly remember my boyfriend's parting sotto voce comment "next time you bring your dog, shave him first!"

Many thanks for comment. I wasn't sure when I posted, if certain parts may cause offence, but the feelings contained in the poem are gathered from conversations I've had with real people (family) and the frustrations they feel at life moving on at such speed.
