The Only Place

The only place

that my hair grows

is in my ears

and in my nose,

the consequence

of growing old

is hair grows where

it's not supposed!

TWO OLD DOGS

His energy

got up and went,

like me he's old

his vigor spent

Just two soul mates

accepting fate,

we compare notes

commiserate

It must be we

are much alike,

our bark much worse

than is our bite

Sit on the porch

our kinship keeps,

just two old dogs

drift off to sleep.

The Sound Of Rain

The sky spits rain

upon the drive and walk

rain runs downhill

it's spatter likens talk

a humidity of clams

and sensuous smells

its clamoring the clink

of tiny bells

it sings of heaven

in its sweet refrain

there is no sound

quite like the sound of rain.

HOMELESS MAN

The sidewalk steams

heat rises

yet there he is

under a plastic tarp

wrapped like a tamale

a hot dog in a bun

his flesh meeting

the burning sidewalk

he does not stir

the pavement heats up

he becomes bacon in a frying pan

it must be 100 degrees

why choose this place

to park to stay to sleep

why not pick a patch of grass

the shade of a tree?

Lactose Intolerance---a poem by O.L. Buzzerd

I am old

and mosta my parts

are worn out and broke down

there's a lot of things

that don't agree with me

including food and politics

then there's a lot of people

who don't agree with me either

my x-wife dont

my kids don't

my neighbor dont

the cat don't really care

one way or the other

got a touch of what's called

"Lactose Intolerance"

whi...

PIGEON COMPLAINT

I am a pigeon

without a home

I have no place to go

now that they have

pulled down all the statues

I used to love to sit on

Andrew and Abe and

watch for tourists

to relieve myself on

but now I have no place

to watch for targets

so I am out of business

and have no place

to do my business

I wonder

do they make Diapers for Pigeons?

I guess it all De...

THE ATTACHMENT

What's in the box

to be exact?

the question is

what is attached?

It takes too long

have to backtrack

I guess it's patience

that I lack

It prompts me with

Preview Attached

still more instructions

after that

See where it's at

but the screen goes black

won't let me open

the damned attached!

CUSTODY

Whose weekend is it?

you had them last weekend

this weekend they're mine

you have them until 6pm

then they are mine again

we maneuver them like chess pawns

trying to get the advantage

we have attorneys

we have decrees

what we don't have is their custody

so one weekend they're here

the next they're there

we are part-time parents

shuffling the kids around

STRAY CAT

The cat comes around

to work his con

your tender heart

he preys upon

He had you pegged

right from the start

he'll charm and melt

your softy heart

On you his skill

is aptly honed

he knows he now

has found a home

You fell for it

his plan succeeds

he is home free

and now won't leave!

DADS

When dads were around

there was strength and trust

and certainty

there would be food on the table

and a roof over our heads

then dads went away

through divorce

or abandonment

and kids were left

with only one parent

one parent who

was not there most of the time

because they had to work

and do all the things the father

used to do

Pick A Year

It is so embarrassing

when on a web site

it asks for your age

and when you click on it

your year of birth does not come up

does not even appear

and then you have to scroll

all the way to the bottom

to find your particular year

it's shameful

and discriminatory

why isn't someone

concerned about that?

it's Senior discrimination

it's making fun of old peo...

Personality Disorder

I cannot change

my personality

despite so many

desperate pleas

From disgruntled

wife and family

blue in the face

from asking me

I just go on

unwittingly

denying fault

but happily

Hoping they won't

take it personally

and accept my

odd personality.

The Fledgling

Within tall grass I heard a cheep

a baby bird there at my feet

so suddenly it had occurred

it startled me more than the bird

Without a peep its silence kept

so quiet I almost stepped on it

from nest it fell and wandered here

but camouflaged it had no fear

It stared at me, just looking up

surprised me by the stance it took

so small it barely left a trace

She Dreams

She makes little noises

in her deep sleep

covered in covers

strange voices occur

baby sounds

the cooing of a dove

whimpers and cries

whispers in shadows

the language of sleep-

she dreams.

My computer is currently down
to it I'm sorely bound,

I'm lost but will be found.

Whole Milk

We cannot be whole

without whole milk

this 1% or 2% just

does not make us whole

Whole Milk always sounded

good and wholesome

we remember when Whole Milk

was the only option

before it got a bad rap

as unhealthy and bad

now we have almond milk

coconut milk

manufactured milk

fake milk

but still we remember

the taste and texture

of delicious whole ...

Toppling Statues

They toppled my statue

yesterday

it had stood for years

in my back yard

a monument to myself

so beautiful and stirring

me, upon my steed

with hat tipped jauntily to the side

It was home to pigeons and grackles

who roosted on my head

their white leavings

reminders of my vulnerability

what a marvel it was to see

this statue to myself everyday

the glorif...

Butterfly Wings

It was a good poem

if I say so myself

I thought of it

just before I fell asleep

when I awoke

it had flown away

it's out there somewhere

in the wind

bring a butterfly net

to help catch it

try not to

hurt its wings.

Walking It Back

I apologize

for what I said

I did not mean

what you thought I meant

it was taken out of context

misquoted

I know it's on tape

but tapes can be doctored

my lips are moving

but it is not me speaking

it's some other guy

that looks like me

but having said that

I profusely apologize

if I offended any person

animal or vegetable

I walk back

How To Have A Happy Marriage

People always ask

how is it my wife and I

have stayed married

for 50 years

it is so easy

I respond

just do everything

your wife says

there is no sense

in arguing

you will always

lose

so just accept your fate

and obey

follow her instructions

and do not push back

then retreat to the garage

or the tool shed

you can al...

still serving his community

gunned down by assailants

being a cop

he had a wife, Ann Marie

GRASS

Grows high and thick

encouraged by the rain

it mocks us with green grin

daring us to do something about it

with a crank of the rope

the mower coughs

but starts

our Sherman tank

in the war against

this growing menace

we push on

always in a circular pattern

as we follow our own tracks

becoming one with yard

the summer sun is here

LOL

When you don't know what to say

and don't want to take the time

to think of something

just slap a LOL in there

and let her rip

it's short

it's accepted

it's only 3 letters

but it says how you really feel

which is

don't bother me

I'm busy

I have better things to do.

LOL.

Ours To Keep

Where are the men of cloth today

who in the past encouraged

all to unify and peacefully pray

there is no man comparable to King

whose virtuous ideals were all he had to bring

who spoke of love

sang we shall overcome

afraid those days are now long gone

where are the freedom fighters of those bygone days

who joined arm in arm and in solidarity made

their way a...

Coffee Mate

Folgers is what I prefer,

it's so much cheaper than,

the fancy schmancy coffee

known as that Starbucks brand,

My taste is not as rich as that

more like a common man,

and best of all, plain Folgers

comes in a red reusable can.

Poet's Plea

I'm sorry I'm white

but I was born that way

just like you

born black

neither of us had a choice

each of us born at random

with no say in the process

or in the past

we had no choice

we did not pick a side

we simply grew

we went about our life

as best we could

in our own time and place

now we are at each other's throats

each accusing the other

of ...
