Hi Cynthia - thank you for your very kind comments on Salsa with Orion. On a different subject, have you read Elizabeth Bishop? I am just discovering her poetry and I love a great deal of it. xx

just popping by to thank you for your pragmatism. I'd rather be known as someone who writes quirky poems that twist a knife than someone seeking attention and sympathy. You were spot on.

Hi Cynthia, thanks for commenting on 'Congruence.'
I originally wrote it in traditional haiku then changed my mind. I had a few different slants on how best to present it and your idea is very similar to one of them.
i.e. enjoying the rain
feel the pain
Narcissus
I'll take on board your interpretation and see if anyone else comments similarly :-)

Hi Cynthia
Thanks a lot for your comment on Anywhere Street - I'm always intrigued into how a poem is interpreted and comes across. The poem is not intended to be humourous it is entirely designed to be the opposite, for example 'BMP hit a bullseye here' implies not only a problem with literacy but highlighting a socially disadvantaged area often targeted by bigots like the BNP who fuel prejudices to promote the cliche that immigrants are the reason for unemployment and many social problems etc. The line about the police trying to speak da lingo highlights an attempt to integrate with the community it serves by trying to appear to speak like them in order for them to conform but with all things if there is no noticeable empathy these attempts fall flat. Jagdip is a typical victim here, did he truly grass? or was he the object of hatred pumped out by racist folk?
You're a very passionate reader and writer so I felt compelled to explain the intention of the poem and to highlight that is not what it may first appear to be.
It does concern me that you think its contrived as this poem was supposed to be more explorative of social differences and the motivators behind prejudice.
Good criticism like yours though is a wonderful gift it holds a mirror to a writer and I choose to look and not to look away, for holding up that mirror i'd liek to say thanks.

Hi Cynthia, thanks for your comment on my poem, 'World.'
You are spot on with your interpretation. I thank you also for your further comments because i originally intended to blog them as a mini series but was very uncertain about the strength/powr/impact of each one standing alone. I've been working on it for some weeks and had real difficulty with the very first stanza but got fed up so decided it was time to air it.xx

re: When more has been said than done: I have generally been eating salami and cheddar toasties with birds-eye chillies thrown in when I've been writing. Not overly exciting but very nice nonetheless.

Thank you very much for your appraisal of "Diving" and "When More Has Been Said Than Done." It is always a pleasure to hear feedback from you. I've been writing as avidly as before but have been more and more critical of my work, editing each one to death before being happy with the ones I've posted. I noticed your "Lines on Picasso's APERITIF" as being very elegant and also very apt. I hope to be able to get to Poetica again before too long. All the best
- Josh

Ta very much Cyn (Time).
life-cycle: it's really a comment on relativity - that doesn't quite work, because Einstein, Hawking, etc are factoring in one element that doesn't even exist - Time!

find a copy of the picasso picture on line and download it to your desk top then go to the make blog entry page. Near where it says 'picture' to the right of the blank box click on 'Browse' when you have found the pic on your desk top, double click on it and the rest will happen automatically if not instantly. Hope this helps. If not tell me the name of the painting and I will post up your poem (it will be in my name however)

Well it was a bit different for me as I stayed on til the next day. Very odd being there pretty much on my own, I could still see and hear you all, like a lot of very nice poetic ghosts! Went for a long walk and wrote Turning Circle. Positively luxuriated in a room to myself (after two nights on a settee)and slept!

Good afternoon Cynthia
Thank you so much for your comments you are very kind.
It seems to me that FREEDOM is a catalyst of circumstance, for example the cigarette crying for freedom is at once set ablaze and is extinguished humiliatingly into the stench of the ash tray who in turn cries out to be set free from its foul labour.
Of course not one of them realising that the cigarette smoker desires to cease his or hers odorous habit and be set free ….and so on.
Once again many thanks
Gusxx

Re Winging It! I think I saw them as doves because of the pure whitness, the quietness, the round eggshellness of them, and the peace element, as they seem a peaceful way to make energy. Hope that helps, Cynthia. Gulls are so noisy!

Yes, you are on the rightish track, things are never what they first appear or purport to be.
the exception being 'Strictly'... I've never watched it but admit to once treading in some.
The poem eludes to tears and lonliness.... frustration and helpless despair.... all to that tedious DOO Dee DOO Doo Dacing in the Rain Tune sung by the smiling and beguiling Gene Kelly.... must have been something that I had eaten earlier.
Thank you as ever for your gracious comments and love you all to bits.

Hi again Cynthia-Elaines transport sounds good-probably better a Lady companion, rather than a half blind pensioner weaving through the traffic at the usual ninety miles an hour(lol!)looks like I will have to take the'Cynth and Stef' windscreen stickers back to the car shop! as long as you are not struggling, thats all that matters.I shall remain the chivalrous plan 'B' standby-I know you will have a great time at Hebden-good luck! Stefan.

Hi Cynthia
I think it would be great if you suggested 5 - 10 good ones - I could include your comments (non-attributed) in the announcement blog. Some really good poems are not going to get in the top 3 so it would be nice to have something to pass on about them.
As for picking 'the one' you don't have to - just send comments if you like. But if you want to vote, the criteria are your own - most fun, most crafted, most human, most surprising, most whatever - it's up to you.

Cynthia, Many thanks for taking the time to read my latest blog poem. Of course it pleases me that you find it of worth but in a sense it pleases me even more that you have taken the time to make constructive criticisms. This is exactly why I joined the site. As you say, it's up to me but the point is to have the views of others working with words. I think I do have a habit of over-wordiness at times, hence I set myself to write haiku poems for the discipline! Once again, thank you.
