Yes indeed the original is nearly twice as long, but in Hiawatha's day you had to walk everywhere, whereas I was able to utilise the car and the aeroplane.
If I can clear my brain though, I may well try a Part 2 in the future

Thanks Dave for your comments and encouragement for the Quarry Man.I was a bit worried how it would work. I will certainly put the Golden Vision on cos I like that myself. It brings back happy memories. I've got a few other football/sport related ones to put on when i get round to it.
I really enjoyed The Tudor the other night, great energy and friendly scene. I was telling everyone at the Middleton WOL last night about it.

Hello Dave. Thank you so much for your kind comments on my poem "Starved to Death, for Jovonie"
The sad truth is this four year old child died of starvation on Christmas day. Even sadder there are probably a million more like this.
Thanks again,
Shirley

Hello Dave. Thanks for your thoughts on 1962 and Walford - a bit differnt from each other in tone. My memory of the Missile Crisis was that the world out there suddenly mattered to me in a life-and-death way. Walford is my usual nonsense!

Thank you so much for your comments! I was just telling a friend what I hoped would come through with 'Broken Mirrors'... I wrote it with two completely different ideas in mind - and you picked up on that : )

Thanks for commenting on In Hope of Wonder.. I was trying to set the scene, the mood with the first half..it is meant to be disjointed and I used the short lines for that purpose..As when you are looking at something..seeing without any real focus and thoughts flit through your mind?..no?..perhaps its just me Ha!!

Hi Dave - many thanks for the time taken to comment
'A' Factor - You pretty much hit the nail on the head.
I have wondered, for a while, how easy it would be to stray into the mindset that prevailed in Nazi Germany, and how many people at that time seemed to accept what we now see as abhorrent acts being perpetrated.
The fact that Ann was Dutch (with all that the Dutch had to suffer in the war) and that she was wheelchair-bound, would have made her a prime target for the camps (and she couldn't have tap-danced to extend her life) brings the possibilities too close to home.
I've also wondered how much of a detrimental influence The 'X' Factor has. Millions of people slavering over people who really shouldn't be on the stage, never mind a major TV channel. How simple for the audience to encourage the acts to become more and more outlandish.

Hello Dave. Thanks for commenting on "The Ballad of The Boy and The Man". I saw Mackay play a few times when I was a lad - mostly when Spurs visited Forest. He has the reputation now as the Hard Man of that midfield, the foil for Blanchflower. But I think this vastly underestimates his footballing skills. He was much more complete than just a Hard Man.
I only saw the highlights of the Spurs/QPR game and Parker certainly looks a "steal" (along with van der Vaart).

Hi Dave
I finally took the plunge back in. The well had been very dry for a good while. When I finally decided to get back on WOL there were a lot of tech problems, now all sorted.
You know how grateful I am for your encouraging 'comment'.
Didn't I read that you're on holiday this week? If so, have a good time.
Where to go (that's good) other than Tudor? It would be nice to meet up
Steve

Dave - I owe you an apology.
I recently posted a blog entitled Poetry Slam which was based on an idea I had in my head. I knew I'd got the idea from somewhere but couldn't remember where - a film, a book?
I've just discovered it was from your discussion thread A Slam with a Difference.
My poem is virtually plagiarism (although I didn't know it) and I apologise.

Hi Dave,(Necropolis)thanks for commenting. Yes the monks are very much still there and many improvements made to the old Anglican church buildings which they took over (perhaps I should write another stanza to include that aspect).
The estate is looking so much better than you will recall from ten years past but there is a long way to go and the actual owner of the site was involved in quite a lot of contoversy which appeared in the papers.
One can't help thinking back to when the site was first opened and how magnificent it might have looked with an abundance of gardeners in attendance etc.

Thanks Dave. I suspect the reference to Our Gert in A Wonderful Opportunity gave its authorship away!
The real vintage though is Bert Williams's - worth checking out on You Tube.
Curiously he blacked up as a Minstrel despite the fact that he was, himself, black!

Hey Dave,
i like your opinion on Explorer, it helps to know how a poem comes across because sometimes we put parts of ourselves in them that we're not fully aware of, so thankyou.

Glad you liked New Yorkers, Dave. I get a lot of my knowledge of history from the works of Bernard Cornwell. I'd just finished reading The Fort, about the defence of Majabigwaduce, which prompted me to do the poem.

Thank you Dave, for your comments on "The Patient". Your comments are more than any writer can ask for. It's such an accomplishment when you can strike a chord with someone. I remember last year you left a heartfelt comment on "My Father's Arm". "Quotations" and "Sugar Spice and Everything Nice" are similar in a way. Let me know what you think if you feel like reading them. Please don't feel obligated though.
I, however, will be sure to take a look at your work and return the consideration. Thanks again - it's as if you "felt" what I wrote about vs. just reading it. Very much appreciated.
Lisa
