When first arriving in Stockport
I was the new boy.
Feeling isolated unable to speak
I found myself in exile.
Which is the selected theme

Well, Greg has taken me down memory lane: let's wait and see what he found there.
And, yes, if we can find any other attendees that would be good.

"Why create when you can sleep, dream
Why sleep when you can create, dream
Why ask when you haven't got a choice
Why choose when the outcome remains the same'
This is modern day angst at its best! Hard hitting realities.

I don`t know how I missed this!
Laura and Andy are right to use the words rich and dense about it.
(Andy`s instinct is also right about stanzas.)

Good one Laura!
Your idea is not at all squalid
Think of our excreted `solid`?
How useful it is to the nation
All re-cycled to fertilisation.
And spread over meadow and fen
Till we all masticate it again.
Your idea is really quite smart
When you start thinking of it:
We eventually eat our own shit
So why not combust our own fart?

Bit of a rant going on there guys, but then poetry is definitely the place for a good rant. I did find those last two lines a little predictable though, I was almost waiting for them. Personally I think I would have left them out. But that's just me. Thanks for sharing :-)

Hi Laura, the one-legged dancer is metaphorical in its feeling of unsteadiness and the rest are analogous to uncertainty :) I don't know how to explain better ! Graham, thank you. Also thank you for finding me beautiful :0 Tilly, you are very generous ! Andy, thank you for reading, as always :)

Quite different from your usual styles, Harry. But I think it works. I like some of the antiquary-style of language but I thought the Pity/probed/prised etc alliteration a bit overcooked.
Interesting issues of free will raised by the content.

John,
Concerning your ring of fire:
Could I recommend my thirty two ply, Teflon-coated, non
stick, finger-proof, indestructibles (which one pulls
through from the front continuously until a clean sheet is sighted)...they`ve never failed me yet.
Thanks for the laughter.

Steff,
have you been going to the same church as Rose?
After this hurricane has struck and you`re stood there explainin` why you wrote all that poetry about a straw house and tryin`to defend yourself on the `strength` of those rickety last two lines don`t stand anywhere near me. :)
(I`ll be tryin` to pluck the wool out of my eyes)

aye up - thanks for the kind and supportive comments on 'Dexteram Patris' Laura. It's one I've been sitting on and couldn't get the tone quite right - and originally I was concentrating too much on the chair that's set apart - once I got he 'busted' line it clicked into place.
good spot with that full stop - I deliberately spaced those lines like that and then left the chuffing full stop in - aaghhh!
Appreciate your comments as always
Ian

A recent discussion blog reminded me of how you can get
alliteration, internal rhyme, and (via the use of a kind of invisible ceasura) allow differing line lengths
by `modernising` some of the old forms of poetry.
That`s the reason for this one.
