The veiled threat and insinuation of violence / conflict is captured very well - I like things left unsaid. Leave it to others to join up the dots. Excellent

The final verse tells me a great deal about both the poem and its author - I like the cosmic nature of this piece. Thanks

Simon, Losing my beloved Chocolate Labrador Leah, (11 months ago) had caused many depressing thoughts, I feel for you. I thought that I could not go on without her. I still have her lead in its spot. I still cry sometimes thinking of her. Reading "Mallard Days" brought out a short, but hard cry. Thank-you for writing this.

J.D. I get what you're saying 'there'.
it does have an AAAA rhyming scheme ?

there, rhymes with there, so, there is a poem there, so there is my opinion on, "to there" (there)

What constitutes a poem Aviva? Anything goes. The real question is whether you think it's worthy of sharing with others, and clearly you do as you have. You could do a series...here, somewhere else, abroad etc.

It is questionable whether this is really a poem at all.
Sometimes I think it is, Sometimes I think it isn't.
Let me know what you think.

Very interesting comments. Thanks to everyone for these comments and the likes.
I see this as closer to the old East Germany than present-day Dover Maritime, although having once been subjected to a rather disturbing rant from a customs officer when trying to exit the Eurotunnel parking area after the tunnel was closed down, I appreciate that these thinngs can happen anywhere.
(And I didn't even have a poetry book!)

Thought provoking. This poem seems not so much about the difference between appearance and reality of our surroundings or others about us, but more about that of how we are seen by others, and even more about how we see ourselves. - You see yourself in limbo or vanishing because of it and you say you are comfortable and not afraid of that.
But it makes me think, this inability to know what we really are and to be hidden by what we appear to be, our true reality is shape-shifting.

Ah but then I'll have done everything on my Don't Do list in the first few seconds of not doing anything, I'd have to make another list or use photo-copies and I could get through dozen's of Don't Do lists and still have a lot of day to spare.
How about a Don't Do list which you only tick off at the end of the day if you spent the whole day not doing the things on the list?

Agreed! Lovely to be reminded of Robert Frost at this time of year. A great poet himself - and the good friend who persuaded Edward Thomas that he could be one, too.
