Alas poor mouse in that he hath pervaded the parlour with entrail and pith, and that Thomas hath rendered him unto distribution and mayhem.Oh may the Lord giveth forgiveness for the deed and show tenderness unto the once quick but now spread. May the rodent's relic be comforted.

I really wish I had been able to see more of your fair country. I had really wanted to see Liverpool, but was talked out of it. I enjoyed my 2 weeks there, but was not ready for the $ exchange and had a mini crisis, due to cash flow. I hope to go back there...soon would be great but with the dollars worth @ 33 cents. I cant see it happening for a while. as it was the last time I had a months pay just to go and stay that short time. was not the smartest thing I have ever done, but I felt a calling to go, so I did. bravo on this one...great poem!

Velcome to our... humble home (imagine as said by Count Dracula)!
Nowt wrong with coming from France - lovely place, 'interesting' people, gorgeous food...
Betterton Street is a poky hole, though. Imagine Flourish and Blotts' bookshop in the Harry Potter films: steep teetering stairways and all! And the people who run the place...! No, go somewhere else.

Welcome Richard,
I only asked you where you were based. Some of us have just come back from our annual pilgrimage to Bordeaux where we held poetry workshops and open mic shows in English and French. So some of us are francophiles. We're hoping to do something in Bordeaux in spring - where are you in France? You could come!

Dave, I meant I had too many "ands" in the first sentence of my comment, i.e. I was critiquing my own critique as I wrote it - very post modern

Strngely enough Paul, this isn't a poem, it's a blog! Somehow it just looks poem-like. Do you really think I'd write a poem which didn't rhyme. And there's only two ands! Alabaster wherefore art thou with thy wailing sax, flushed with that fullpage colour coverage in the Bolton News no doubt, ah how soon they forget you once they're rich and famous. Melissa and peter thank you for your kind comments. I am considering making this a weekly foray into the stultifyingly dull world of Dave Morgan.

This poem is like life itself (he said pompously), it has a start and an end and is full of a mix of happiness, poignancy, sadness and things happening in the middle.
Too many "ands" says a pedant!
Seriously I enjoyed this one, I too was at a remembrance day event though in my case it was in a strange town and quite by chance.

PS By the way Dave I thought you had recorded some poems with Alabaster - when are we going to hear them?

well, I would like to know how to speak German, as they are part of my kin, but I understand your point! I think its a great poem, we do try and cant help it when those elected lie and cheat us.I can assure the camel lovers of this, be glad Im not in charge. But then they are just a pawn and thus cant be thought of in that way. Its very hard to figure out truth from fiction over here, the news is so bad and I must say it is un the UK. God, well I really struggle with that subject, seems the history of organize faith is so full of blood, I have zero to do with it, but part of me still believes in a higher power and I have had interesting things happen after prayer, that i wont go into, but beautiful and wonderous visions. So its hard to just throw that away. I think that within my life time I will see a revolution here in America, Im not happy about it, as I know it means death of some. I love this poem it makes me think as Im compelled to do daily.I really love your work . thanks clarissa

There is certainly a place for your work in the world. More people need to know.
There must be a way of getting the right people to pick up on it and get you on your way.
You deserve it.

I did "get" it and emailed you that I had.I understood some of it, but the cutting part Ill never understand it, I know for some its very real and they do it, but self mutilation is very foriegn to me.Pain as the tutor in life is a great line. Its not a failure.Im just happy go lucky me and have a hard time with subjects like this.So the fault is within me.Now I feel bad for asking a question.

Hi Clarissa, thanks for your questions on this.
The picture in this case is purely a metaphor.
I cannot explain the poem as it is just a stream of ideas, perhaps then, not a poem, it refers it seems to demons within and the cutting to feel real, maybe a diversion of pain. However it seems pain follows us around from one ill to the next and only the mind can finally exercise it.
At the beginning of the piece I had a vision of hiding things away, the stashing of the junk food, but later a more public display of desperation. It also refers to substances such as sugar or other drugs which may offer a high a quick hit release.
I would not like to explain the poem as that defeats the obect, however I would say that if it cant be understood then that is a failure on my writing. I always try and project something tangible rather than a theory or forced poem, I think as I gain more writing expierence I may be able to be more proficient. I wish to be as subtle as I can even with massive understatements being the paradox.

Thanks very much Pete and Clarissa. I am not that productive really Pete, I just keep recycling. That is my contribution to saving the worl by not expending unnecessary energy.
As for a kids book, well that takes real effort and illustrations. I can't draw.

what has happened with the destruction of those hen harriers is an unforgivable act. The monsters that patrol these testosterone laced killing grounds are lacking serious elements that make the human race a sustainable force for the future. Shame on the royalty scum that made this happen. Shame on the flat cap brigade need to shoot to fel alive fools, the frivilous spools of shotgun rhetoric seeps from lips laced in cordite and lead, and the dead and corn fed pay the price. idiots.

Hi Sophie
Thanks for your comments and for following my links. Firstly the click throughs to gambling sites. I am afraid I don't know what these are unless they are advertisements by the hosts of my website. I do not gamble myself. As far as I am concerned anybody who wishes to gamble should be free to do so and I would not censor advertisements, but it seems a rather silly activity.
I am certainly a strong advocate of free markets and the economics of von Mises is not only sane sounding it works. Most notably it works to remove more people from the misery of poverty than any form of state intervention has ever succeeded in doing.
It is a tragedy that most of the world lives in economic misery. There are many causes for this and none of them come from free market activity. Major causes are protectionism by the rich nations and the maintenance in power of murderous, thieving dictatorships by international aid schemes and NGO's. It is actually the mega rich, like Gates and Buffett, who are doing most to alleviate 3rd world misery through their well run charities.
Obviously there is much that we could debate, but perhaps a poetry site is not the best place to do it. Can you separate art from the artist? No, probably not. That sometimes troubles me when I know of the racism, sexism and bigotry of the poets whose work I admire. Life isn't easy. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to challenge my views or put anything to me.
