Hi Laura - thanks for the lovely comments on my gannet poem. I managed to record it myself using a programme called Garage Band on a friends computer. It's the first time I've recorded effects and stuff myself - loved doing the echoes! The only instrument I used was a little child's xylophone, just tapping two or three notes. Setting up all the echoes you get lots of accidental rhythms going on. Hope you have a great Christmas! xx

hey, thanks for the kind comments on 'Philae' Laura - yes, I know what you mean about the emotional mind-blowing nature of the achievement - still think I would have been more in awe of a scientist saying 'I've found a cure for ebola, AIDS and cancer, though ;-)

Thanks Laura -I think your talent would love the challenge of forms -I know you would find the tension of rhyme very stimulating - you have the images!

Thanks for commenting Laura. You're right, I was definitely writing 'from the inside'. They do say we're all on the spectrum - the debate is about where to draw a line and apply a label. You might be interested by Donna Williams' books Nobody Nowhere and Somebody Somewhere. Fascinating and revealing.

Hi Laura. I'm really happy you enjoyed my poem. The truth is that I make these things up. Depending on what issue I'm writing on I try to get into someone else's mind and shoes. Words just come out and really try to feel what could be felt. Thank you for your comments.

Cheers Laura for your wonderful review of 'Scots wha hea!' ;)
re your further comment- I find the 'debate'(on Scottish independence) both interestingly provocative and outrageously deceptive. It really does just pip Oscar (Precious) Pistorius' trial for mendacity, incompetence and contempt from the leading 'players'. If it were not for the seriousness of the issues involved it would be hilarious.

Laura, re: The Blessed Man, sometimes front line capitals just feels right. Perhaps it is the subject here, so universal and simple, which maybe requires those 'standard rules' to which readers will immediately relate.
And nothing is more universal than fairy tales. Or mythology - sort of the same point... sort of.

Thanks for your note, Laura. I knew the poem 'Wishes' might irritate some persons greatly; and also, that somebody would know exactly what I meant.
It was written after much thought, years of thought, until one day, it just slipped through my pen, complete, exactly what I wanted to say.
Thanks for sharing.

thanks, once again, for your kind comments on Passchendaelle Laura - I really enjoyed writing that one and the stark haiku format, usually so beautiful in it's wordology, really suits the sharp and brutal images I wanted to get across. Already recorded it for the album - with a haunting celtic pipe feel resonating. Thanks again

Hi Laura
Pleased you liked "Glasto in my Garden" and the "sisters lippy" line. I think Glastonbury should be on everybodys bucket list just for the diversity and 101 different experiences with mud ;)
Mind you nowadays it's all "Wet wipes, Wellies and Great big tellys"

thanks for the comments on 'the vegetable man' Laura - yes - love the paintings - they are clever, colourful and yet, quite sinister - hope the poem works in the same way - it's a pretty old one that I revisited
UPDATE: got it - 'writing in fire' just the way the lines are structured and that rolling momentum thingy - well I think so anyway :-)

Hi Bessie
Thanks for making me reflect.
My Mum was really good with a needle, but she was very talented (artistic) at colouring black and white photographs
I actually enjoyed writing this (which isn't always the case)
I've seen you're doing a slam in Warrington. I won't be going, but what are the rules? I'm always intrigued at the various kind of slams

Thanks for taking the time etc, and yes this time I really mean 'the time'
Hey'up Dave was done a while ago, and then I decided that I should show some balance, and the next two (making up the Trilogy) came along quite close together. The Church was obviously the next target, but Michael Grove? Is Michael Gove a real person?? Surely not! He can't be can he?

cheers Laura - re 'Fracking' - must say, like most people, I don't know enough about the technical stuff to know how much harm and upset fracking is going to cause - but I don't know how syphilis works either - I just know I don't want it :-). I'm having a go at a few 'form' poems over next week or so - but a cinquain was new to me - so thought I'd give it a go

Laura,
It was the McGarrigle poem…I liked the calmer style of it, and also the neater stanzas. I couldn`t hear you reading it in your usual `go get `em` style. It was much more - powerfully - controlled.

Hi Laura, 'Beano' many thanks for the kind words. I never actually met Ian Drury but if he is the one I think you mean well rather a sad ending. BTW, I haven't been to Thanet either.
