Thanks Nigel & Stephen for comments & all who liked
I like that 'flames of time' line Nigel☺
I always feel I sound more 'poetic' if I write something that sounds sad Stephen 😁 I need to do something about that, it's a creative conundrum- Is it possible to sound cheerful and poetic? Your answers on a postcard please!

I understand the point, Russell. It's true that war served up by TV channels as entertainment can become dull.
This pleads for proper coverage with proper context.
Thanks for the poem.

Thankyou, Bethany. Yes, I got it.
I’m toying with my next one noting Bojo’s reluctance to give up office with a parody of The Ivy League’s “Tossing and Turning”, entitled “Kicking and Screaming”.

I had a feeling when I posted this yesterday that it would be out of date before anyone read it. As I write this, the BBC has announced he will resign today.
Perhaps I should have called it “He WAS a liar”.

Many thanks, each. I don’t subscribe to the view that they are all liars. They don’t all tell the truth, they obfusticate, they avoid. But what they do is leave themselves enough wiggle room to change position.
Johnson lies, denies, gets found out and (sometimes) apologises. Then repeat. And repeat.
If this isn’t important to you, you have no respect for democracy.
And thanks for the Likes, Frederick and Jennifer.

How true, Keith. As you say, one can't choose kith and kin, but friends yes. I have one in particular from almost childhood days, and she is just the same as always. You can have many acquaintances, but real friends are somethig else.

The proclamations seen on police vehicles nowadays - you know
the sort of stuff about protecing and serving - could benefit from
the addition of the word "impartial".

When entering politics, the simple words "yes" and "no" are
consigned to the dustbin of dialogue and flexibility becomes the
default word for honesty. I imagine it's the same across the
world; indeed in certain Latin American lands such behaviour seems de rigueur! 😎

Sadly, we are well past the times of the 'honourable man' in politics and elsewhere. There again I think we've all lied sometime, for us it just didn't matter so much

Stuart,
Words of poetic optimism are most welcome at a time of despair and doubt. Your words give hope and the reader will find solace in them.
Thank you for this

Thanks so much for your comments,Stephen. I think I sometimes 'doctor' my poetry to be socially acceptable. Here, I though, no, be honest about my true feelings!. So it's a bit Darwinesque! 😀

I love the way you combine poetry, tragedy and humour, John. Yes, that sense of relief, similar to when you leave a hospital after visiting someone who is ill. It's not admirable, but it's there.
