Win
Thanks for your thoughts on Sleep Easy.
I get a bit miffy when I hear people talking about sending all the Poles back and I'm tempted to wonder "Does that include all the ones buried here?"
The idea for the poem comes from 13 Polish war graves in St Mary's Cemetery in Hucknall, where I'm from.
The photo is a bit of a stretch though. Apparently it is on Wood Lane in Hucknall and commemorates a plane crashed in the town piloted by one of the many Polish airmen stationed at the Rolls Royce aerodrome there.

Hi Winston, thank you for commenting on "Invisible". I was inspired by your excellent blog entry called Ghazal. I didn't think my own effort as good, but hoped it complied with the form. Ah well, nevermind. :)

Winston - I put a comment on my own blog but just wanted to put a big 'thank you' here too - your comment was exactly what was needed, and I've changed it now. Deffo works better, but as mentioned on mine, I don't know what to do about the first line so I'm a-gonna leave it
Oh - and cheers for the heads up on the competition - I'll give that a go! :D

Are you mutating into a post box Win?
Thanks for commenting on my poem "BE!" I put it upon the blogs after giving it a 21st birthday party. After some drinks it burst into tears and said it never met anyone any more and that I'd left it unloved in a cupboard for all those years and wasn't it time I introduced it to real poets. So thanks for being a pal to this poem, it really needs one and it hopes you visit again soon.

Hi again
If I could have posted up the original, I would have - I kept it for ages, and only lost it when I moved house. I see what you mean about the rhyming being less strong at the end - I was trying to avoid too much obvious rhyme, as the Smoke poem had been that way and I wanted to experiment with departing from that a little :)
I'm having a bloody great time playing around with all kinds of stuff anyhow, with no techie knowledge whatsoever :D
I hope you enjoy the NMH album - you may find it takes more than a few listens to fully appreciate it. Bit of an acquired taste. It's quite a strange album, and is not what it first appears to be. Interesting back story to Jeff Mangum too.

Thanks for the comment on the shopping list Winston. I was only recreating a list I found years ago in a checkout bin, but am intrigued as to why you think it is less strong towards the end? (welcoming all constructive criticism, I'm no diva! I've only just started!). I kinda wanted it to degenerate and lose a bit of rationality, as that was the nature of the original. That piece isn't something I think I would have thought up by myself, unless I'd found that list, and it was only Steven's comment that made me remember it :)

Have you heard that album at all? It's actually my favourite album, ever, and I speak as a lifetime music anorak who has never once been able to say for certain which album is my actual favourite (or even my top 20 favourites!) :D Well worth a listen or 50. Jeff Mangum's a genius, imo.
Anyhoo, it played a major role in this love story, and continues to do so :)

Winston, Many thanks for your kind comments. I have been playing around with formal structures lately, although not always successfully!! "Necklace" is an attempt at tanka. I have just taken some time to read through your samples. I really like your work very much indeed. "On Mondays I fall in love" - very much appreciated the haiku structure which worked perfectly! I like the range of your work. I found "ON SEEING A BOY'S FACE" very strong. The site is a pleasure: people are really supportive and I have found real benefit from the constructive criticism that has been offered.

Yes - I find reading other people's poetry on here a great inspiration - Cynthia's often gets me thinking. Normally I don't finish them - it works well if a chain of thought just happens to co-incide with your every day life. x

Thanks for your comments on my daughter's poem Winston. I don't think the site lends itself that well to kids - there is a lot of adult content and some very serious poetry also. She is growing up fast though... I'm quite sure she'll be on here one day. x

Hello Win, apologies for tardiness -- you were very kind about a dab of odd music I posted: thank you. I wanted to say how much I loved your gently powerful ghazal for Pakistan. You have such a lovely lyrical voice, all your work is touched by a shiver of magic. Moxy xx

Thanks for the extra interest, Win. Glad you told me, since my email doesn't direct me to the source anymore. 'the little leaf' has since been revised a bit, (not yet posted) to be more directive. How egotistic is it, that I come back to my own work and think, 'I like that' as though I had never written it at all. This is a big confession!

I enjoyed your Picasso poem. I have a copy of his The Burial of the Count of Orgaz & Other Poems which is interesting but a bit too surrealist for my taste. Good luck with your book launch

Hello Winston. The ghazal is from a poetry site called Poets Graves and was written by a chap called Ben Johnson, who despite the name, isn't famous.I didn't you - or anyone! - had such a passion for ghazals.

Winston. I've managed to create the link to th ghazal:
I buy them merely for the smells of books
and days disappear in the spells of books
In the sun with a hat and a hardback
I draw refreshment from my wells of books
As a teen my brain was aflame with them
I walked about deaf from yells of books.
For bullies whose brains get tangled with words
I pray there is reserved a hell of books.
At night I was lulled by the wave of words
hissing in my ear from the shells of books.
The notes scribbled by previous readers
genetically alters the cells of books
Faced by the mountain of the works of men
Solomon wished he'd not heard tell of books
The media insists our modern age
will create the final farewell of books
A trail of bent spines and scraps of paper
marks my progress through the pell-mell of books.
Exhilarated I rode the white whale
of Ahab through the turbulent swells of books
Oh Ben your sadly sagging shelves reveal
you can't resist the hard sell of books.
