Hi John, re 'boner'.
There was a polish lad called Walter in our class at school who use to brag that he always woke up with a 'boner'.
He ended up competing in the olympics......
I think he was a POLE VAULTER ??
Ha!ha!

Looking back I can't seem to find your poem about the twin girls anywhere - where is it and did you tag it for the comp? x

I would say that shows versatility. The ability to do the big and the little - how you rate what come out of it, is up to you.
Having the power to affect your audience is no small things in my books.

Ola companero,
re: the profile photo; I'm sitting on a very dusty front room floor trying, and failing, to get that 'moody, enigmatic' look. Neither noir nor 'phwoar!', eh?

Thanks for your comments on The Cruet Set, John. I was interested in your family story about the Doncaster mining job. My wife's Scottish great-grandfather was blacklisted for seven years after the General Strike. It caused a lot of hardship in his family, and even a political divide. Then in his seventies, or maybe even eighties, he became a Communist councillor in his home pit village. There must be poems about both those relatives to be written, some day. Greg

The procedures are still there on the new thread - thank you both for your restraint on that. Recent difficulties highlighted the need for more visible grievance procedures. Now these are in place, there should hopefully be no repeat of recent events. There will always be kerfuffles on WOL - it is how we go about resolving them that needed to be made clearer.

Hi John, know what you mean, my discussion should have been fair to stay, but I expect they thought it not the way to treat an individual grievance. Isobel posted how to report something similar in the future, but now of course the information has gone with the discussion! Cheers for your input :)

Hi John - my thanks for reading and commenting on 'Good Dreams, Bad Dreams' - glad you like that. I used to keep a pad and pencil handy by my bed ready for any nocturnal thoughts or dreams - these days it is mostly a tablet pc I reach for instead, hehe. Best wishes, Dave

Which one John? Serendipity and Happenstance? It does appear - there's maybe a bit of confusion as some poems have been tagged serendipity and some serendipity WOL comp and maybe some just WOL comp. When it's time to vote I'll make sure all the poems are on the list. My fault for being vague in the beginning. But if you've written another poem for the comp then get back to me cos I ain't seen it.

Hello John. Thanks for your comment on my poem "Ragged Man". Yes I am still posting but not as often.
I have another poem written in the same style but from the homeless view point entitled "Homeless".
Thanks

Really chuffed with your 'I Pledge' discussion. It doesn't matter how many get involved, even 1 is a step forward.
I've just posted War & Peace to explain myself better (I hope)
Getting involved at school may well be the most enjoyable thing I've ever done (outside family) - hope you do

I`m incurable, John, can`t get past that it is a sacred duty for the poet to praise the opposit sex.
I keep hoping that the sisterhood night reciprocate, but (as someone said at a recent reading) it could be a case of identification.

Re: 'FOAD #2'; cheers, gringo. What say? Should I try to get it read out on 'Poetry Please'? Ask Andrew Motion to do it? [Can't stand the man, personally - or his poetry, to be more precise. Turgid drivel.] Well, it's way past noon: time to crack open a bottle of turps and toast the Queen. Care to join me? I make a dashing turps/battery acid cocktail - helps the spleen when I want to write about 'people' who deserve it [present company excepted, natch]...

Howdy once agin, pard; 'Poetry Is For Cowards' is for someone I once met at a writers' group: she actually used that line within earshot of me [the stupid, braindead #&%@...ohh, I've no time for morons like her, except when they give me something to write about, of course.]

Thanks so much guys! You are all so kind!(In Sleep)
Anthony and John - I was aiming for a degree of poignancy - wot r u like! ;)
Cynthia - no way! (Mother and son). And he is "gone" into that deep untroubled kind of sleep that young people seem to manage. And maybe that sleep symbolises the unreachableness of the man.
Ray - re last verse - I'd like to add something to imply that skin/flesh has a memory, as they say that water has. Not sure how, yet.

Hi J.C. - yes, I thought I.G.'s post showed
just how much thought and care can go into these things. This was consistently inventive
with a clear grasp of language, and left its message without being either portentious or pompous.
And a happy Christmas to you too!

Thanks for taking time to read/listen to Depression. Impressed You were almost spot on with the influences. I had recently re-read some Kafka and D.T's Rage Rage against the dying of the light, and Bonzo's Canyon was in my head, but alter Bosch to Albrecht Durer a print of whose is above my desk.
