The problem for Leavers is now what it was when they voted. They don’t know what they would get. Which, to my mind, always made it a silly thing to do.

I apologise, I just realised my mistake...my comment should have said ' as long as it's not funnier than mine'. Judging from your Lottery sample I have good competition.
Thank you for your comment on my profile re Westonbirt Arboretum. It started as a serious piece about the beauty of the trees but I couldn't resist some observational humour (with 2 U's).

Thank you all for your comments and ideas, some very interesting points. I really appreciate the feedback.
Most of my working life has taken a different direction - university then a host of jobs in health and social care. I loved my brief spell in industry however - looking back, I have rarely been happier! Then again, I was young!

Thank you Big Sal.
I'm still bumping around in the dark until I get the feel of this site.
For example there are plenty text formatting options, but it is a waste of time using them because everything just re-sets to house style....damned annoying.

Well the thing is I was under the impression that most mags won't accept things that have already appeared in public, even on FB sometimes, so I tend not to post things on WOL until they're published. Suppose it depends who's looking - probably they don't look often and I'm just being paranoid.

The only ones that would not enjoy it are the ones too far in denial to care, Becky.
Well done on your slam. I think your multimedia approach is effective in itself and can do you wonders.
Keep up the great work, and I loved the piece by the way.?

Thanks very much Lisa and Jacob. I had the usual working class straight male prejudice against ballet until somebody told me that ballet dancers were fitter and stronger than International footballers. Then I looked, and listened, again, and was mesmerized. What prompted this particular poem was the return of Alessandra Ferri (pictured), the Argentinian ballerina, at 52, to star in Wayne McGregor's new Covent Garden production based on the novels of Virginia Woolf.

Being "shafted" by one's own elected representatives is never less
than painful - and my memory still reminds me that it is "par for the
course" for past political behaviour from those closely supportive of
the EU and its methods. The UK media, heavily connected with politics and politicians, have been less than partial
in its choice of interviews and reports
following the parliamentary votes -
totally excluding the leader of UKIP, the
driving force behind the desire to return
to national sovereignty/self-government.
This just adds to the public mistrust.
Personally, I have this to say - copied to correspondence to the media and to my
MP -
During my working life, I took an oath of allegiance to our sovereign
lady, Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors. Unlike certain
members of parliament, past and present, I do not consider it to
be transferable to the EU, its heirs and successors.

Great writing as usual. We have become anaesthesized to horror through seeing it every day on the net or on TV. Also here anyway our newsreaders pile it on -' burnt to death in their car' -' stabbed 45 times' etc. Do they need to be so explicit? What effect must this have on the people who loved them? Today they were talking about an assassination of years ago, and they had to show the poor victim bloodily dead in his car. If that gets them a bigger audience we are really in a bad way. There is no compassion any more.
