Nice to see you liking this Jennifer. I wanted to personalize the canal hence the lines that kick it off. I tend as you know to write short poems as I run out of options quite quickly, and end up with vignettes.

Thanks Jennifer for your memories and thoughts, you seem to have an endless supply of responses to what I write, such a lift to the spirits I have to say. One of the few pleasures and a comfort to the troubled soul too.

Hello Clare

I would like to include your poem in my presentation for a TedX and wanted to get written confirmation that I could use your poem Weapons (and credit you of course) during my talk.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Lovely yet again. The complicity between the pipe and the smoker is so well expressed. It keeps the smoker company. My father smoked a pipe, and the yellow tobacco, in a special pouch, had a fantastic scent. (I gave up smoking at 8, yes eight. Having smoked several of those small packets of Players, and even her father's cigars, with a friend, we decided there was nothing in it for us)!

I'm hopeful this is beneficial for WOL
purposes of the imagination being invigorated and inspired beyond the parameters of humdrum existence. Poetry has long been a remedial resort for the
mind and has produced results for both writer and reader alike. The likes of Blake
and Clare come to mind. Let the magic of words make their presence felt to allow
the mind to take us on a journey in this life. It is the least we can do and we owe it to each other via that gift of life..

Fascinating! It's always a surprise to find a canal in the depths of a town, as Graham says, it's difficult to imagine how busy they would have been when built. Especially liked the first three lines. A lot of people go cancycling along an unused, but well kept canal where I live.

Great writing Ray! One turns on the news and hears that yet another conflict has started, often in a part of the world where the people have very little even in times of peace. Liked 'in the crow's nest of my life'.

Brian has a fair comment to make about "strict" (or not) rhyme. His
own lines seem well constructed in the context of the poem. I enjoyed the repeat of "ish" in the chosen words to maintain the theme and the rhythm.

Do.

Impressed with your Deep Thinkingness
You've plumbed the Deep Think Sea
Now let me add a Deep Thought line
'One you'll never see'

You've jumped upon a merry-go-round
And scratched your head with art
Drib-drabbled round the edges and
Attempted haiku start

Very good. Do will be impressed....

Lotta deep thinking needed.....

Really just dribble drabble.....

Don't tell Do.....?

I find myself alone again and wish my life would finish

I cannot think of a better description of this than MC's : 'A powerful message of emotional confusion.' As a rhymer I am also jarred by subside/die but the best I can do is dry/die, still not the most satisfactory. Perhaps something needs changing with these two lines as all the others rhyme perfectly....

A powerful message of emotional confusion. The use of rhythm in
the lines appeals to the songwriter in yours truly, although it sometimes goes off-balance along the way. I am a devotee of rhyme
and as such would have sought something to chime with either
subside or die, according to preference. But that's just me! Good one!
