Indeed, Graham. I also missed The Big O's "It's Rover"!

Thanks Andy, for your kind praise.
Just in case I've inadvertently revealed myself as Perv No.1, I better hurriedly offer more clarification. I wasn't thinking exclusively of my own sexual fantasies when I wrote this (he said, coughing nervously, hoping his words sound believeable). ?
Thanks again Andy, always good to hear from you.

For me, pace Ray, it's the last verse that does it. Ace.
Then i read your own comment; it saddened me to read 'about those we'd love to have sex with but, sadly, can't'. How long's your list? Mine's quite modest, i think.

Paul, you paint an acutely painful picture of a dying relationship; it's a hard read, but a great poem.
Your profile pic is arboreal, as is the metaphorical nature of the poem. Do you have an affinity with trees? I do, specifically Beech trees, coincidentally my mother's maiden name.

I wasn't sure how correct this was David, but if you like it i'm more than happy. I thought maybe there was a certain humour in it that perhaps sat wrongly with the gravity. How can that be? Thanks for the compliment. The voice quality really works on this gismo!

Hi Stu
It was great to catch up with you last night. your poetry was fantastic as usual. As I mentioned last night it is worth attending Marsden Jazz festival in October. Julian will be publishing it no doubt closer to the time. Also around the same time is the Chorlton literary festival which is around the same time and will also be on the WOL web site nearer the time. Both of these events get packed so they are good places to get known. All the best with the book. I look forward to more posts. Hope to see you again soon
Cheers

Hey, David..thanks for commenting. I realize that I don't often approach things straightforwardly, so I can appreciate the fact that anyone might want to hold off until a little light can be shed.
Silence is hard to read, obviously. As to whether it is a conscious choice or imposed by some internal force can be impossible to decipher from the outside. Maybe a better question than what silence may indicate of a non-speaker, is why they do not speak. That is, are there external circumstances that exacerbate persistent silence from an, otherwise, capable speaker?
Just more questions and fuel for the fire..thanks for expanding.

Hi Ray and Col, very grateful to you both for thinking that clever clogs are required to decipher this one but, actually, ordinary shoes will do fine. It's about sexual fantasy, including long-term fantasies, about those we'd love to have sex with but, sadly, can't. Hope this clarifies things.
Thanks as always chaps, much obliged to you both.

this is very clever but I'm not the clever clogs that Ray is after. It took me a while to get past the first line which I kept reading repeatedly - like closing one's eyes tightly in the sun and seeing images floating.
And I love the record. rewind. watch. edit. lines which are inspired. There are parts of this that remind me of several classic British movies - Blow-Up and The Ipcress File for example. Certainly intriguing.
Col.

and I was tempted to comment because I was wondering is that Betty's tearoom in the picture? I've only ever looked in at the window here and in Ilkley. Being a non-tea drinker always seemed a reason not to go in. That and the prices!
Enjoy the Happy Harrogate status for there will surely be bus loads of depressed people heading your way for the cure!
thanks for posting,

I am encouraged to comment Tim because I was an oft times visitor to Harrogate to play in a band at the Majestic hotel, and was very ill drinking here once. Put two and two together and you have an opinion, perhaps!
A hell of a drive there and back in a day from London by the way. I sensed a certain genteel grandeur there.

I'd call this a riddle Paul, and some clever clogs will no doubt hit the point - it has a certain drive to it. The last verse hold the key I believe. I would love to discover it aythangyow.

I was in tears after this John. ( not to think of what I've been missing by the way.) There was plenty of it in the early VHS days probably from Denmark (rhymes with bark). Such as Canine Capers.
I bow to you as an expert . Did one of the dogs send flowers via Inter Flora by the way?
My own hoary attempt once began:
Mrs Grimley's pekinese was often held between her knees
in which position she came to fruition,
he was a most obedient dog.

Hi Daniel, well in my experience this is not the case. At all the poetry gigs I've been to, people give their full attention and it's the norm to turn mobiles off. If people behaved like this I think I'd change venues.

Hello Harry, hank you for your comment on the poem Here for a while. What you say is interesting and poses some questions. In nature we see cycles of events which focus on birth, death and resurrection. The seasons bear witness to this. It is no coincidence that Easter is celebrated in Spring a time of new birth and life in the world about us. A thought which inspires hope. Thank you for this. Keith
