Diplomacy of the true Statespersons! You two should run the world! Great solution which required thought, wit and application. Actually, the 'child-eating' idea is rife with possibilities. But, yes, let's do something myth-oriented again for sure, not necessarily Greek or Roman.
BTW, the 'cherries on the cake' is a genious picture.

Steve, thanks for the honour of being even considered as competitive material for the LiverPoetry event. I have been abroad and not 'WOL connected' for some time. I'll be participating again soon, though it will take me days to catch up on activities. Respects always.

Dave - thanks for nice comments. I'm not sure that a life model would consider that she/he was performing a service would she/he though? Stef - thanks for comments - re the size of canvas required - I expect she says the same when she's painting your - head! ;-)

thanks Andy. I think living with 2 musicians probably has had an influence..and before that my parents were also..there's almost always music playing somewhere near me..and I love Palya's voice.. the woman singing on the you tube track.. thanks again, deb x

Hadn't planned on logging in but was very struck by this. So vivid. What is going on in the heads and hearts of people who perform services for us - the imagination can run riot. Here there is a real twist.

Shame about the Swiss and the "Red Cross" though John. As a confessional, one diappointed ex once informed me that if I had two inches less I'd have a four inch f***y!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read, comment, nominate and vote - whoever you voted for. Your encouragement and comments are greatly appreciated.
I can't pretend it was a difficult subject to write about as Neil's story has been in my mind for as long as I can remember. Writing about him was, I guess, something I have perhaps needed to do for a long time. I'm glad I was able to share his story with you; at least there are now a few more people who will remember him.
Regards,
A.E.

“My mouth is mentored by urgency;.."
a great opening clause that demands we read more and this is rewarded when we get to - not least - "and outside your heart, I am disguised
by the lack of everything.”
Great writing once again, Marianne.

Hi Thomas - you know I enjoy your work and this is no exception. One thing that does jarr with me (but only because I'm anal) is the contracted clause <You'd feel>. The other opportunities where you could contract <I am distanced...> and <I have glanced...> you've chosen not to and it 'feels' a little inconsistant. But the sentiment and the pace I interpret as indicative of wanting - which is great.

i enjoyed this poem too.. great use of images as ann says in 'stealing words..' and the last stanza also is particularly strong.
'Words staggered and lurched, crept out seeping from my brain and celebrated birth' i felt was too long a line also and perhaps again should be split into two or three lines as it has a lot more beats inside it than a lot of the other lines..
good stuff however..
Comment is about Previously (blog)
enjoyed this i must admit and it made me smile..
i think you had a few too beats in several of the lines however particularly on the 4th line when i felt it could be split up to make more effect!

Well done Anthony. Even those who didn't vote for this poem must surely agree that it is unusual and powerful. It is also an interesting illustration of the approach to poetry outlined in your discussion post today.
An archive of WOLOP winners would be good, if Admin could find a home for it somewhere.
