Thanks for your comments guys very much appreciated.
I know what you mean about gardening Phil.
Stu and Laura lamb is always a feast in our house. I would have used the word succulent but that would risk sounding like an advert.
I agree with you wolfie about a single idea it is amazing how your imagination can run away with itself
I see your point Cynthia about the two poems. It is always a tricky one. I have written another longer poem recently which has got two parts to it but could just as easily be two poems. I may post it later
Thanks again everybody

Nice sonnet but shouldn't 'folks' have a possessive apostrophe?

Also, wasn't the bard's skull stolen, curse or no? A good subject for another sonnet, perhaps.

Thank you Trish and Stef - most people would have been fast asleep at 3.30 in the morning! But not you two, hey? Ha ha ha.

Well, not us either, actually but by that time it was hard staying awake.

Ever thought of changing your window cleaner? ;o)

Ray,reminded us of a similar one we did back in 2013.

Hamelin man.

Just updated it with one of these-©-which we never used back then. The actual poem opens with the words of your title.

Great poetic minds oft-times think alike-me/wethinks.

Cheers

Lynn, how dare we have missed this one!

We think it's because we were doing 'something' at the time,on both occasions.

Having pornographic memories of 28/9/15 we recall that because of the 'something' we were doing on that date,at that time our curtains had to be closed.

Well! you don't think we were going to give the window cleaner a free show,do you!? ;o) ;o)

Fortunately, while we were doing 'something' last night
we didn't need the 'coitins' closed because we don't think he cleans windows at night.

And anyway, because it isn't a pretty sight, its likely WE would have to have paid him to watch!

What a lovely thing to have seen-
the Moon we mean!

Very persuasive in a strong form - great confidence coming through and it shows the wonder of a sonnet and how powerful the message can be.

Fulsome praise Stu. I was going on to say about old ladies not using them so much and it would have meandered on , so this is the short version. To get poem of the week would be a leg up so to speak, and its very selfless of you to suggest this. I'll pay for a T shirt!

Always nice to hear back from people though and most don't bother, so you never know whether what you have written is appreciated or not.

Most of my stuff is damn silly, but there are some serious ones too - check out my blog entries.

Cheers again for making the effort to respond. Makes it all worth while.

Thank you Lynne and David.
I wrote it for fun really and enjoyed doing it. I think it does resonate a little with people who lived that particular dream. Personally I dreamt of Thatcher dying early but hey ho....

I should have guessed Maclaren has a flash stone! Next time write "tosser" on it for me!

And... I too saw the Stranglers last year, birthday present from my lad. They've have still got it!

this is excellent ray. you have cut to a really pressing and philosophical point using brevity as your sword. i have more images in my mind from this small piece than i garnered from the entire issue of poetry review i read yesterday. lets start a campaign for this to be poem of the week. i will print the t-shirts.

Laura- I've been arguing all those points for over 20 years and all of my point have been validated. A sense of relief and anger emerges at the same time. As for a 'party' I'm a good boy tonight. :~)

Newberry- "j'accuse".

Jemima- I will have to disagree with you on one point, you are not an outsider. As someone once said " to fight injustice anywhere is to fight injustice everywhere :~)

I know it`s getting nearer and nearer, but
that`s the first time I`ve ever been Villanelled towards it. :)

Congratulations on what is (these days) an aptly gloomy (and poetically well formed) revelation of what is waiting
for more and more of us in our aging society.

Lovely to see such a good starter.

Hi MC,
Sorry for delay in answering.

I acknowledge the EU is far from perfect, but I am of the mind that we would have to deal with them anyway, and we may be better off trying to change things from within rather than being outside with no say at all.

Yes, you are right I did mean safer financially. The problem as I see it is that we do not have all the industries we once had, and much of what is left is foreign owned. Our energy companies and utilities and most of our rail network are owned by EU countries.

Half our exports go to EU, and if we will still want to deal with them we would still have to abide by their rules. They are likely to slap import duties on our goods if we are no longer part of the EU.

While we may be paying them billions we get some of this back, and some have even argued that we get back more than we contribute. There seems to be no way of knowing for sure.

To be honest I am more concerned with Theresa May wanting to take us out of the ECHR but that is a separate subject.

Of course I don't know what the outcome of the vote will be but I do tend to believe that floating voters who are still unsure in June will either not vote at all or vote for the status quo, as better the devil you know.

However, we shall see.

I confess that my initial "reading" invoked a sinister concept
familiar to those who were around at the time of the
infamous Lorena Bobbitt case. Those unaware can always
Google her name.
I am happy to be put right and interpret it in its correct

You had me right at

the aftermath
Of lamb infused and bruised
With garlic and rosemary sprigs
Cut from a garden bush

mmmMMMM. My rosemary sadly turned all woody and tree-like last year, but she served me well for years before that.

This is absolutely gorgeous - Stu's bang on, a feast for the senses.

Hi Andy, thanks for your comments and for bravely delving a little way into my back catalogue. I'm sure there's enough material there for a whole conference!

I sometimes take my iPod to bed with me and more often than not out and about as it's a great way to jot down those odd lines that come without warning. Sometimes it only takes a line or two to make something a lot more but I know if it's not put down, especially at night, it will be gone forever.

Thanks for sharing your poem which I enjoyed. You don't need shades and a doughnut shirt to read your poems out loud but it helps me feel a little bit epic. I did my Retriever poem at my local P&P last night and it was hysterical, so much laughter. I think it was the first time I'd performed a poem rather than just read it out. What a buzz, I'm still smiling now. Go for it, what have you got to lose apart from your dignity and wtf about that eh?
