JC - I saw "Red Ken" on a late night political programme
very recently and was impressed to see him stand to
attention and mouth the words when Katherine Jenkins
sung the national anthem. Perhaps remembering Corbyn
not doing likewise.
if you join a disciplined UK force to serve "Queen
and Country" then the oath of allegiance is enshrined in
the procedures. Elsewhere, it is modified to suit the
accepted constitutional arrangements of a country and
its history - as in the USA among others. When in Rome...?
I know the tune but not its name. At least the content
of your blog didn't encourage the use of "The Leader
Of The Pack"! :-)

On occasion, I find my sleeping mind creates a theme and
eventually the words - often well on the way to completion
when I finally totter from bed. This has also been the case
with song/lyric - which I why I've found a cassette tape
player VERY useful. I know from experience that if I don't
act immediately and get something on tape, then it will be
lost IF I drop back to sleep, often a test of will power
when duvet comfort calls!

Hello MC,
I've never had much time for Livingstone. But he and Corbyn are meant to be political allies. I bet Corbyn could murder him right now.
I've just read Allegiance. As you might expect I disagree with the premise but still enjoyed the discipline of the poem.
Are you familiar with this tune? Twinkle's 1964 motorbike accident song, "Terry".

JC - whatever the pros and cons in this "free speech"
spat (we're all too busy tip-toing around other folks'
sensibilities nowadays), you are, as usual, right on the
money with both rhyme and presentation.
Talent ( encouraging a wry chuckle) is always to be welcomed. Thanks.

After all the rhetoric, copy inches, TV coverage, radio tributes, press conferences, bios, etc the one word I haven't seen mentioned is forgiveness! It's a shame there isn't room for it yet. It will need to come out before this sorry mess can be laid to rest.

Hi greg
I knew Adrian very well, first met him at streates coffee bar, I use to go round on a sunday and have tea with him and joyce, he was a wealth of knowledge, in fact introduced me to the joys raymond chandler. Adrian stayed in my parents house after a cnd march, when we were in london. In his painting christ entrance to liverpool I'm next to arthur dooley near the front. I participated in his happenings at the hope hall. We nearly caught up in Cookham Berks, he had come down for a poetry reading, I was rehearsing my big band in a church in cookham, he I believed went to the wrong church. Oh yes, it's me on the saatchi site, I've always dipped the brush, Adrian did have one of mine,
fondest regards

Thanks for stumbling upon and commenting on this article, Mike, and great to meet - online, at least - the author of that poem quoted. Did you know Adrian Henri personally in those days? And you mention that you write, but what about art ... is this you? http://www.saatchiart.com/art/Painting-lord-and-lady-shosti-o-kovitch/89719/1403772/view

Thank you very much

This has been excellently put together Stu, the whole nature of it is fractured .I often feel that my own thinking is quite fractured when I get these random ideas and notions, that work together. Frank Zappa would write musical pieces that seemed quite fractured and random but often worked really well.
However a Great series of poems, particularly liked rust and gaps.
