That's lovely to hear and to think that the children could have been inspired like that.

Happy Christmas to everyone at Kingsland and all those involved in the project.

I don't think many people make money out of poetry Ged - but I can understand how you would find the omission of your dedication upsetting.

It's good to remember those who made sacrifices on our behalf. I'm glad such war poetry is still written.

Enjoyed this Ged - you perform it very well.

I know you are talking about seeing in a spiritual sense, but I think many poets see what others don't.

Poetry can be a curse in itself at times - something you could do with switching off - also something that pains you when it won't switch on.

Hi Ged - good to see you on here! Thanks for taking a look at some of my work - glad you liked it.

I hope you enjoy WOL as much as me. It can get a bit addictive at times - your wife will probably end up cursing it! LOL

You should post that lovely poem you wrote about your son - that was a very moving performance piece.

as you have with the acceptance of Jesus Christ (Christmas) and the sun, the seasons and the universe we know. That was how I interpreted it...thanks.

Everyone can write poetry. Just as everyone can take photos or draw or even make music.

Not everyone can write good poetry, draw like Picasso, take photos like Don McCullin or play piano like Ylang-Ylang.

Then of course, there's the question of who decides what good poetry is... can't say personally that Fiona Sampson's idea of good poetry is the same as mine...

Hello Cathy. Many thanks for your kind comments on And Trio's.
I am embarrassed by the sentiments of some of the commentors who have all assumed that the piece is biographical.
I will of course explain to each, however I have not experienced a tragedy, but have merely been inspired by the potential of one.

Thank you once again for your feedback.

Very best regards,

Graham

Crumbs - it's nice to see you turn your hand to something serious John - and boy this is serious.

Your poem has caught the mood of how I have been feeling for a long time. 'We have seen the best of our times' is a quote from King Lear, if I remember correctly. That thought often goes round in my head - just how lucky I was to be born at the time that I was born. I'm also very fearful for my children - for all the reasons you go into in your poem.

Unlike MC and AE, I don't read your poem as just an indictment of bankers and successive governments. I think the problems are much bigger than that. The banking fiasco hasn’t helped. Every man and his dog going to University to study shitty tin pot courses, probably hasn’t helped either. But one of the biggest challenge we face for the future is, too many people for the resources of a small country – that coupled with their big expectations. Those are my cheery thoughts on the subject anyway.

It is doubly pleasurable to get positive feedback from those whose work I also enjoy.
I was blessed with inspiration in getting the
words and "traditional" feel I sought and hope
to get it commercially recorded one of these

I really enjoyed this too Mike.

I would have preferred a shorter musical intro, possibly cos I'm more of a poet than a musician and I was keen to hear the words. I think the style of music suited the post war stress syndrome that I think you are trying to convey.

I would also like to have seen the words so I could read and let them run over me at the same time - but that's just my personal opinion.

As Anthony says, it's very well put together and innovative.

Yes John, we have been royally shafted. I despair at each new revelation of how the elite wealthy are finding new ways to protect their financial advantage by disadvantaging the rest of us; and more so at the way our elected representatives either support or ignore this. There are solutions out there, but these are hampered on two fronts; one, by the public's apathy, and two, buy the disproportionate influence exercised over both the media and (all) political bodies. But, come the revolution . . . (Poets v Parliament?)

Regards,
A.E.

The premise so evocatively set down brought to
mind the view of a Latin gentleman of late(ish)
years who once wrote to a daily newspaper with
obvious relief that the demands of his youthful
ardour had diminished, leaving him able to
enjoy life without "the pressure to perform"..this in indignant response to the advance of the HRT female of similar age.
In short, there's a time and place in nature
which can provide its own rewards.....
and relief - that we should embrace not fear.

Well said John,
I wish people would pay more attention to the fact that this historically unusual and temporary situation was brought about by the bankers creating oodles of shaky credit (remember all our credit cards?) The bankers also got rich (As Carlyle said. `Who has the management will have the money`) But so did everyone else. The trouble with the bankers was not just the thievery - but their incompetence...They didn`t fully understand their own business.

All this talk about `protecting the city of London` makes it likely that they will be incompetent again in the future.

Your blog, John, is a timely reminder that `progress` is far from being inevitable.

Thanks for the comment(s) about my carol. The
words came "as in a dream" and I surprised myself by getting a tune almost as readily.
I love the old carols and had a wish to contribute my own personal effort to the genre.
It is hugely satisfying to have done that and
I may yet get it on a commercial Christmas CD in the future.
I imagine your updates on a range of pop songs
must go down well in "live performance". You
seem to have NO shortage of material or inspiration. Great stuff.
Merry Christmas!
