Hi Dave - Ta for another lovely comment. No, the production line is all my own. I think it's just that I've only been writing for a short while and all the ideas and images of my life are suddenly unleashed! I'm really enjoying it too! Just posted ANOTHER one. But you see, someone mentioned dolphins to me today and I just thought . . .

Hi Cynthia,
thankyou for your comment on Mr. Skoulikaris. It really is appreciated and i've missed your input to my poems because you are always so helpful and encouraging at the same time.
Incidentally, i too would hope that the fisherman did not catch the dolphin. Maybe the fish that ate the worm was proverbially speaking 'the one that got away' and that fish fed the dolphin?
Continuous existence of some kind.
As for Darwin influencing the poem. Who knows what's possible?

Thank you Cynthia and Rachel, sorry for the delay! I wasn't conciously thinking about a specific kind of birth. Having said that my first child was a ventouse delivery so maybe i was? I think from the childs perspective it is more typical than not, some variation along the way maybe, but yes, i think it is a generalised view of the typical.
Phew.. that was garbled, sorry, it's the first time i actually thought about it!

Thanks for commenting everyone. I lived on Antons Rd for a year. It's improved since but was a tough place back then. The 'poem' is based on an actual conversation, but is also amalgamated with the life experiences of two other women with similar difficulties
I believe the world has changed since 1975 and there is now far more sympathy and support for people with learning difficulties who want a normal family life

Cynthia, I think the third line should be "where would be the joy in that" just a tense change.
I liked the pared down delivery. Less is more, makes us all work harder.

It's really weird, but, like Ann, I read the poem in Emma's voice. I've never done that before, and I didn't realise it until I got to the end.
Great read.

There is much to be considered in this poem. My family worked with the mentally challenged both in the hospital environment and socially. I'm hoping you are speaking with some experience also. To describe the population of Antons Rd., Halewood, as 'flotsam' is pretty strong. It's a big many-facetted subject.

Hi Dave
We must always remember that there are all sort of people that make up a society. Some we may not be able to relate to but they are all part of the mix for good or bad. This made me sad Dave. You have done a good job with her voice and the issues. Some may not consider it poetic but for me thats not what its about. A thought provoking read. Win

Just ran across this one. Different! Thought-provoking. What about sheer human inconsistency? Can nice guys really be nice every minute of every day for the rest of their lives?
Comment is about What I'm Allowed to Do (or should be able to) (blog)
I had meant to get back to this. I really like it. I wouldn't have called the curiosity 'morbid', just natural. The personification of death is as old as human thought, but it is never 'finished' or boring.
Every human being has to rethink Death again, and your ideas are just as unique as the next person's.
Comment is about Morbid curiosity. (blog)
Chill run up my spine, girl. Oh - the tone - the tone! To create 'bitter' so potently is a a real skill. The last line is a killer. Well done.
I'm assuming this is the 'answer' to your prior poem.
Comment is about Not quite goodbye. (blog)
Your poem is inspired, full of mood, entirely apart from the visual painting. I find it so hard to see only the romance; but you have captured a moment of beauty to be enjoyed of itself. 'I want ...' certainly expresses desire, perhaps to be 'a religious person'? I think you are very spiritual, responding to the best ideals of 'religion' evoked by this painting.

This is good, Kathy. 'A steel manger' is superb. I'm presuming a forceps delivery, using the words 'torn out' and 'ragged seams'; 'screams' etc. Would you consider this typical of being 'Newborn'?

John - you never cease to make me laugh, belly laugh in fact...A lovely poem Cynthia - and I would agree very much with Greg's comment. I think reading the work of others has helped me enormously in writing my own. It is also fascinating to see the world through the eyes of others - even if they do see things very differently. Your poem sums it up beautifully without being obsequious.

Starts off well but then you seem to cram as much as you can before turning it into prose where you're more interested in telling what you're feeling.
