Fantastic Cynthia, a unique and interesting description of the miracle of our bodies at work to sustain us. Happy New Year.?

Hannah, I'll try to catch up with more of your work this 2019. You have 'style' in writing too, which is impossible without sincerity. And ideas worth sharing.
Anya's advice is excellent.
That is an interesting photo on this bio page, obviously not a selfie. Full of 'message' it is, open to individual interpretation. Presuming it is you, of course, bold and bare breasted. Correct me if I'm wrong. And I do mean 'bold' in a most complimentary way.
4:00 A.M. can be a magical hour for new ideas to surface. And be put into action. Poets must have a source of personal 'magic', call it whatever you will.

HI! Welcome to WOL. A new screen comes up at midnight, both monthly and yearly as it happens. I'll try to follow some of your work in 2019. WOL casts a world-wide net of poets and their poetry. You will enjoy the site. Thanks for translating from the Norwegian.

Only too true, and beautifully expressed. You must have reason to 'know' you will be 'alone'. It doesn't seem like speculation.

Maybe even more like 'essential', because it often isn't 'easy'. A fine thought this New Year's Eve, in England.

You are one sharp cookie, Lynn. Even writing such a piece emphasizes this absolutely. Money and trust are strange bedfellows. I wish you well. Challenge everything without fear. And don't give a damn if you get flack. Or feel like a shrew. It's your future, not anybody else's.

Great thought to pass 2018 into 2019. May I suggest that you repost it tomorrow, such a positive note to start our whole new year on WOL. It's really worth a big readership that's not likely to happen tonight.

Julian, where is Colin? Are you free to make a comment? I was really shocked to see his name 'deleted'. I didn't have an opportunity to enquire earlier, and I know this is really 2018 'last minute'. I am truly interested because he has always been so supportive of my contributions with such insightful comments. I'm just hoping he is all right, and that the decision to 'leave' is his own.

Sorry; I still can't make a monthly donation, except via PayPal. I go through all the rigmarole of entering name, card number &c&c (I've tried about 6 times) and it STILL wants me to generate a PayPal account. I am NOT going to do that because I don't want any more people messing with my money than I can help.
WOL doesn't need the middleman.
I am trying to give you money, monthly.!! Can you not get it sorted?
PS When I start to enter email &c, in the above I get a generated pick list which includes my password in clear, my alias and an OLD email address that WOL should not know.. THe WOL software is messing with my PC.

Now Kirsty you've gone pulled a swifty
You've morphed into Happy Hiker
A good replacement which I approve of
I'm glad it wasn't Harley Biker
Can you imagine the thoughts I'd be left with?
A Kirsty all jacketed in studs
Riding atop a big Harley
Instead of hiking round in the mud
Hello Happy Hiker ?

There's soooo much baggage carried around by the term Mother. Many a serial killer has been made from the most twisted ones .... As a mother I hope to limit my dysfunction and not project my own fears or desires on my kids... It's a tough job for sure. I always love your poems Rachel, and this certainly provoked thought. Happy New Year to you.

Kirsty537 I'm a pleb from Down Under
I try not to be a source of ridicule
I absorb all WOL wisdom that appears on my screen
And deliver poems I think that are cool
I'm not in a Speakers Group, but if I was
Telling others I wouldn't care anyway
I'd just shrug my shoulders and say go get lost
Cos I'm untouchable 10,000 miles away ?

Happy New Year Rachel. Anything that ends with .....ism is dodgy on all sorts of levels. Mothers huh? Fact is, none of us'd be here without one. I like the pin-prick image, like insect stings, enough to drive you mad. John

Looks like I've gone jumped the gun Po
New Year is still one day away
Your flaming galah is still dizzy
Bloody hell Po what more can I say?
As I type this it's 10.22 here
People anxious, waiting midnight
To watch fireworks welcome new year
Can I keep myself 'wake till they light?
yawn.....
My problem' s I'm sipping some white wine
Replying my answer to Po
It's making me quite sorta sleepy
(Turn on the telly Don, wake up for the show)
groan...?

A poem that stands alone and expresses a reality with a poetic sureness . I love the Hoovers and souls lines particularly but there is some grim humour throughout. Curiously, Hull is another town of the east that has attracted the city of culture stamp of approval, Grimsby can't quite claim that. Life clings on. The whole poem seems a bit fishy to me.
Brilliant stuff David.

Music, and musicians, hold incredible power don't they? They give us the soundtrack of our lives.... So that when we hear a piece of music, we are transported back. I was deployed overseas with the Australian Army and on our visits to remote villages, we would often play Tracy Chapman. When I hear Tracy now, it takes me right back and I can smell the jungle and betel nut. Truly wonderful Cynthia, thanks so much for sharing that moment.
