Have to admit to feeding the ducks, not recently but when I lived near a pond.
It is a classic summer scene that you capture, one to savour as we cling to summer's end.
Love the word 'coracles'. Beautiful.

Brilliant and clever!
"I will write about you again,
but I know that’s not entirely true."
How perceptive.
Don't ever edit your feelings. Keep writing!

I know my physical body will go back to the earth but where (if anywhere) do those intangible things like the mind, soul, spirit go? I like the idea of recycling. I've asked my mind where it's going to shoot off to and it just shrugs its shoulders. Great help it is.....Just says make good use of me while I'm here. What sort of friend is that? Anya...?

A poem which well describes the onslaught of materialism and the futility of pursuing it.
Thank you

Damon,
This is a cry from the heart not from the brain. The brain is an emotional cul de sac whereas the heart is full of avenues which you can travel down without fear. Explore the heart. This poem is beautifully written and one which many will be able to relate to. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Ray,
Only a keen eye and imaginative nature could produce such a poem. I read it slowly a second time as it is to be savoured. Thank you.

When I was young and in high school looking for a place to be, I wandered into numerous Christian churches looking for myself. I've worked maintenance at a Methodist church here in my town, and I still use religious motifs, imagery, and other identifying factors in my poetry as it still suffices for euphemisms, analogies, and other great literary techniques. I may not follow the path I once did before, but reading and imbuing oneself with creation (religious or not) can aid a writer's imagination tremendously.
Good article Keith.

I had a friend that once wrote a book and compared go-getters to eagles, and those that wait for opportunities to chickens. I love all birds, but this piece reminded me of that, and couldn't help but share this fact.
Great piece.?

Wonderful Ray
I love the simplicity of the event and how vivid and exciting you make it sound.
I love the 'tiny spread of time' and the thought of the 'heat sighing in the glade'
Great!

Great poem - I echo the words from Becky.
Well spotted - I don't think I had ever noticed the little man in the corner before and would certainly not have thought to look at the words on his page.

Thanks, Don. I think when he becomes Prime Minister he will find a telephone booth, rip of his clothes to reveal himself as the new Superman of British politics and lead the country to glory. Or else he’ll continue to be the entertaining, devious, self-serving oaf that he is.

Many thanks for your generous comments, Taylor, David, and Ray. I was moved to write this poem earlier this year after being invited to take part in a Remembrance Day event in Twickenham as part of the Richmond literature festival. Sunday November 11 also marks the centenary of the end of the first world war. I'm very happy to be involved in something on the actual day, and in that way to be paying tribute to my great-grandfather - and my mum, too. This poem didn't make the final cut for the event, so I thought I'd share it here.

Hi, thanks for commenting "I hope the sleep function is working". Your comments and feedback are always appreciated. I wrote it when arriving into bed a few hours after my husband, as I often do, as the dead of night is the only really poetry oppportunity for me. How poetry fits into couples' lives could be an interesting discussion thread...
