What a pity
Me Down Under
Missing all this
Boris wonder
Yes I wonder
What I read
Things start good
Then go to seed
Trouble is
So far away
Can get things wrong
Did Boris play?
Surely not?
Politic power
Did not keep
Him in his bower?
You can see
I'm rambling on
Not a clue
What Boris done
So I'll stop...

Give 'em some greens Ray, much better for them.?
Great poem. Brought to mind the blue bill of a Ruddy, and the iridescence of the Cayuga.
Simple yet effective.?

a fantastically faultless piece that carries with it so many truths that can be easily related to by so many people for sure.
loved the gentle flow, Timothy.

Thanks Hannah. I am glad you liked it. It means a lot cheers
Thanks also to Mark for your comments. you are right gone are the days when you might see old guys sitting round tables in certain parts of the pub chewing the cud. It was interesting that in some pubs I use to frequent as a young man there would be a real mix of people who dug roads for a living and those who were airline pilots. It seemed to work well. It was probably the village that I lived in where that was able to take place.

There is an almost casual quality about your work that reminds of 1960's British black and white films that is also very gritty and tender at the same time.
Wonderful

A sort of nihilism here Robert, but the ideas are novel and ironic. Please excuse me saying but I think the poem would be stronger without the last three verses. Just my view, but it seems to go for a walk...

Incredibly sensitive and considered writing Ian. There is sadness but not mawkishness, and a comfort in its span.
The magic lanterns a perfect idea, and where demons rein we have to be bold and challenge them to find the ties of love. Just marvellous and moving.

I think this is a clever play on a simple theme with a twist that makes it well worth considering Becky. The kind of separation that can exist with couples always interests me, as it challenges romantic ideals in poetry, which are always plentiful.

A wonderful slice of real life Greg; you breathe so much into your work, and as David has said this has great resonance. A connection with the past is so important in a family context. When my mum passed I took it on myself to find out about her past - a tricky task but a rewarding one in many ways.
I hope this can be read at an appropriate time this year.

Yes David. A matter of perspective, observation, borders, possibilities - all these things must bring to bear on any assessment, and I appreciate your own as you know.
Ironically, that line was just an illustration of what one reads on gravestones rather than a pointed reference to any bigger picture. But follow such things we do , and that is right for any poetry. We could just call it a clue....
I think taken as a given, the length of any life and its validity can never honestly be pinned down , except perhaps by the degree of grief it produces.
Poetry can be divisive, and also inclusive. Both need apply.
I need to get my coat.
Much appreciated. Ray

Hi Peter. I like your comment. I suppose my intention was that an inscription means so much at the time, and then becomes just a memory, given impact by the viewer.
Poignant of course. Thanks, appreciated.
Hi Marie. That's gratifying, thanks. I try to paint a picture!
