Hello Roy,
Thank you for this fascinating piece of verse. It is beautifully profound and requires several readings. It has a quality that challenges the reader to form his or her own conclusions on the nature of the forest. A real achievement. Thanks again. Keith

Thanks Jemima for the praise and love the story about your neighbours 'tittle' and 'tattle' - great names. I agree with your concerns about Hot Gossip outfits. Scary ?
Aythangyow Ray, kind praise and what a genius of a gent you are to mention 'People Watching'. Respect dear sir.
Thank you both, I'm so grateful.

Thanks David Suki and Paul for your thoughts.
The reason I wrote this is how weird it felt to go back and retrace my steps after six years and to remember so much of that earlier time in detail , etched as it were. The same thing can happen I suppose in unchanged environments and can woo us in different ways with a sense of time passing.
David, sadness is something I instinctively pick up on - really it is a way of life with me. I want to heal it, but I am also a sharer of it. The setting was certainly quintessentially English and cossetted, but the parrot just seemed incongruous.
Nice compliment Suki. Sometimes I just indulge myself in detail as if constructing a stage set. It's easy to overdo it! I hope my humour is never vicious, but it is broad.
Cheers Paul. Always good to get your thoughts, which here seem to coincide with the other comments.
Jemima, how kind - you have fallen into my humour pot, but with equal respect I did try his idea of pills, but I didn't persevere long enough for it to go away. I'm anti pill really and in any case after six years I feel fairly confident. Thanks for the advice though. I havn't checked out the tenna pads ; probably more embarrassing than a teenage request for condoms. Can you be serious about the shape? Thanks.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the poem!

I think the ducking stool should be re instated Paul, and not just for scolds, but for the male of the species . That would put entertainment back on the local map. I like the way your repetitions and synonyms collect together into a kind of overlay of gossip , a clever aim .
It takes a very strong character not to get drawn into this type of whirlpool. The press are of course superb at doing it and getting it all out there.
I could go on, but there are people watching.....

great poem Paul.Reminds me of two of my neighbours who I call 'tittle and tattle' The three of us get on very well though, and they laugh about my nicknames for them, whenever that is,they allow time for a laugh in between their gossiping.Speaking of which,I might change that to 'hot gossip'ers' although they are a tad old for sexy outfits! Thank you.Jemima.

Caught perhaps between night and day at any given point and the struggle to break free of one's demons and move on, or back. The groundhog has its daily repetitive routine, sees its shadow moving with the sun's trajectory, is rooted in time unlike the author who feels adrift in that same ocean of time.
Okay, so that's my take and I'm happy to admit I'm probably miles off the mark but that's the beauty of an elP poem. Your words allow us to find our own trajectories.

Lots to think about here Aishah. Like many of us I have lots of answers to the world's problems but how to go about changing anything? The solutions are so simple yet seemingly impossible to put into practice.
Let's hope the lovely people can one day make the world glisten. It's a hope worth clinging to. Thanks for posting.

We visited Belsen when I served in Germany, and what happened there was beyond belief.
first line of the third verse "there was no discrimination", I know what you meant by that, but of course it was discrimination that put them there in the first place.
the style in which you wrote this, suited the subject matter perfectly, and made for a moving and thought provoking read.

Hi Ray,
Your reading is right on the money again. I have listened twice to this; your reading really evokes and brings out the mood of the piece.
It's the combination of light and dark, witty observation and warmth, and then the last two verses take it to a darker place. I like the way you constructed this, although it appears quite effortless..
Thanks for sharing,
Suki

Hi elP,
The title suggests the poem that might go one way, and then there is the line:
..the groundhog sees his shadow.. which can be as an almost "deja vu all over again" kind of vibe; one day melting into another, then another..
However, the next two lines turns the poem around on itself, almost, and then finally back to the beginning. The rise in the east to the fall..
Hope I have understood this.. Anyway, it works for me, and it is just after four in the morning, so the perfect time to read. There's a certain synchronicity there..
Nice one..
Suki

John,
I share your feelings.
On balance the Lib Dems look logical: If the sovereign power ceded it`s sovereignty to a referendum, to decide to leave (without revealing the cost) Then - when the true cost is known - they should again cede the final choice to another referendum...let the people decide. (If things get as messy as I think they will this will be unanswerable)
The final date for nomination is the eleventh of May, and I`m fascinated at (perhaps) the possibility of Tony Blair standing as some sort of alternative independent Labour candidate...The idea is delicious. (but Maybe I`m just dreaming). I can`t see him just standing on the sidelines.
(just waking up for a while) ?
An afterthought:
If all those youngsters who were too lazy to vote in the referendum wake up, they may get up
enough energy (poll tax wise) to actually riot.

I like the inclusion of Erik Satie Stu. His music has a jagged quality as against say Debussy, so that's spot on. Great imagery here and as always those poetic depths to mine , the gems sparkling in the veins. The great thing about WOL is the variety of styles, and yours always brings joy . I know you suffer with your art, but it's always worth it for us readers.

Hi Jeff,
Wait until the Internet of Things arrives - that's just around the corner. There will be no going back..
Personally, and perhaps not a little ironically, the techno world we live in has given me so many ideas for poems because it is such a fascinating subject, although it can be a dark one too. Imagine where we will be in ten years? Actually that is sort of impossible now..
Cheers for the read!
