Exodus.... movement cyclopeople.... Oh yeah! Sorry Ray, but when I see Exodus I can't help but go a little Bob Marley. For an Exodus your poem is almost too short and over in a flash of skin tight lycra which leaves me wanting more - words not lycra. All good stuff tho. Cheers, Col.

I guess I was more focused on rhyming than meaning. However, have you ever heard the expression, ''you are a thorn on my side!'' - a thorn suggest a bother or something/ someone that is cumbersome and simply disturbing. A fool is like a thorn in one's side when they are out to pester you - trust me, I've had people act the fool to annoy me - just like a thorn on my side.

Ey up John Just spotted this thread and content. Mmmm. Have you run the thrush-stuffed pig by Brayton Farm Shop and which village hall did you have in mind. Presumably NOT Brayton since it would struggle to accommodate the birds let alone the revellers! Please could you work up some words for a poem that references Goole for Boothferry Verses Competition? Before end of May, 40 lines max, free entry, judged by Paul Lyalls and some nice prizes. (Nay sayer is doubting that there will be many entries!!).
BTW no-like ashes but always up for a plate of hash.

Thanks Keith - a very nice true story which shows the antipathy that can come to the rescue of common sense. I always take any accusation of humour as a compliment!
Col. Cheers my friend - it's nice to see your loyalty for my stuff. It's worth a lot. Sorry you have been compromised.

Thanks for commenting on 'The Father's Curse' Cynthia - as always you are very insightful in the points you pick up.
'Terminal Velocity' vs 'High Velocity'? I guess that's down to accent and delivery - but 'terminal' trips off my northern tongue very rhythmically when reading the piece - so works for me :-)

Thanks for your comments, Suki, Colin, and Adam. I am always happy to hear your individual takes on what I write. They, each, never fail to capture some bit of the original essence in the writing. Though, there are some thoughts that cannot be entirely encapsulated within words--of even the author's, of that thought.
And, further thanks...I'm glad that each of you (FMF, David, JemJ, Paul, and Karen) liked it--unexpected, yet welcome, response.

Ray, I can't seem to keep up with you these days. Whenever I find a minute your posts have disappeared down the line and I've run out of time before finding them. So I'm glad you posted this whilst I was online and got the chance to be first in! Great stuff as always and the same goes for Time Flies, Nothing Changes. I'm reading I promise but with my lappy poorly again I am resorting to phone tapping to keep up. Normal service must be resumed soon I do hope. Cheers matey. Col.

Hello Ray, the humour in this is really good and reminds me of a visit I paid to my sister who lives in California. Whilst having morning coffee there came a knock at the door. On the doorstep stood two men dressed in smart suits. They introduced themselves and asked if my sister was a born again Christian, to which she promptly replied that she had been born alright the first time. The door was then shut abruptly. Poems with humour invariably strike a cord. Thank you for this. Keith

Well done for hitting the right note with this one David and bagging the ultimate WoL weekly accolade.
How I wish my English lit teachers were of the crushable kind! Instead I had two old boys who between them only managed to crush the subject I so dearly loved. Mind you the French teacher was alright and the girl who sat in front of me even better. Gosh, there were so many distractions I had no option but to drop out and go work in an insurance office for two and a half years!
David, your poem deals with such a deeply saddening scenario and must be commended for its restraint and lack of vitriol - always brave to post about such personal experiences.
All the best,
Colin.

Hello Garry, Thank you for expressing an interest in a number of my poems. I do appreciate this. Most of my poetry is focused on my observations of life in general. The complexities of human behaviour, the world about us and who we are and why we are here. I am also affected by conflict and human suffering, hence my interest in Peace and Justice. It is the ability to express oneself which poetry enables me to do this. I am close to seventy years old and as a gay man I have had to carry this as an additional burden in life thus making me more sympathetic with other minority groups who similarly suffer discrimination. Your recent poem about being admitted into hospital had quite an effect on me as I have recently been diagnosed with angina.
Thanks again for such interest. I shall be keen to see more of your poems in the future. Thanks again. Keith

Lured To the desk of death.
Where many heads have left there necks.
Figures scutter across there crimson innards.
The stench of flesh dissected by insects.
Vermin feast for free, Souls left rotting in purgatory by the murder scene.
Tried to hurdle the guillotine past Guards in metal garments.
Clawed with a blade, stained red like an artist of war.
Human canvas painted by swords.
Chained to bascule, Flagellated with tasseled whips
Blood pours out battered limbs,
into the cobble streets.
Another un finished piece, even if you have a bad comment please post it. Really really would love any type of feedback
