Anyway, just wanted to say that I love this poem. My dad lost my mum last June, and he speaks to her photo every day too. Awwwrr.

These are all my own original pieces. I never intended for the world or even a small gathering of people on the Internet to see them, but here they are for safe keeping at the very least.

Love this poem Phil. My fella played Forever Young on his guitar at two of our dear friends' funerals, and changed a couple of lines each time to make it especially for them. I can't listen to it without thinking of them now.

Considering the small attendance at the Ring 'O' Bells the evening turned out to be surprisingly interesting and lasting longer in time than it does with a larger gathering.
Consisting of two poems apiece plus conversational intervals where we exchanged each our method of approach in poetry construction, the evening flew by, with contributions from Tony, Jaquie, myself, and our effervescent host the bubbly talented Eileen Earnshaw. Sadly co-host Shirley-Anne has had to bow out through weight of commitment. See you all in June.

How many have known this curious phenomena?
I wonder sometimes at how many would even know what it is to give a wide berth..our language is curious.

Here goes Stu: everything is stripped back to nothing which is the essence of truth that others can't see you expressing - and by shocking them you can be something to really impress (all subconscious of course)!
That'll do instead of a poem tonight . I hope this is not an insult to your intelligence - it just came out.

Completed today. I should have worn a nappy.
But nevertheless raised over £300 for the Red Cross, not least because of the generous donations of Stu, Ken, Graham, Greg, MC, and Harry - all of this parish. Also from the whip-rounds among the participants and audiences at York' Speakers Corner, Doncaster's Well Spoken and Leeds's HEART.
It is good that poets raise their voices against poverty and injustice but money doesn't hurt either.

Yes they are David, i'd been listening to Bob and he set my mind off in that direction.... seemed appropriate to homage him. I'm glad you noticed.
We have a great new project here in Hull... called "Homes for Heroes" and people volunteer their skills and renovate a property which is then rented to Vet families who are struggling.
Sadly the worse of our sufferers choose to be on the street with all it risks.
When I was in Kiwi we had a guy, Vietnam vet, who disappeared into the bush and lived in a bunker for a month every time a chopper passed over... happily bonkers though. Of course people forget the risk increases with age but not the suffering.
I'm glad your compassion is about us!

Elizabethans called it a codpiece
Even now it's hardly a modpiece
And the rest of your garb
Is well worth a sharp barb
All in all it's a bit of an odd piece!
(But you deserve your cash for sheer(!) entertainment!)
I hope the speed of your descent didn't have an adverse effect on your extremities!!

Just taking a piss, as they say. If you don't see it as clever, then, I suppose you must get my drift, at least somewhat.
As for conditions of nervousness, that could go either way, as far as I can see. Whether one makes animals nervous or they are made nervous by animals. This one didn't seem particularly agitated.
Thanks, David.

Another strong piece chosen for POTW. Protest poetry is sadly under represented in both music and rhyme it seems these days. Modern Day Vikings is a great analogy too!
However they did stay around a long time and their presence is still obvious today. A very good choice!

Even down south, we know about the strength of feeling about all this from watching news stories in the past week. The metaphor of Viking raiders seems very apt, Tim. Thanks for this passionate, timely poem - a reminder of the power of rhyme, and repetition, in the poetry of protest.

This poem was inspired by a documentary about a chap who was boating on the river Shannon in Ireland. He had stopped to listen to the Frog Chorus coming from the males waiting for the females to arrive at the 'breeding waters', and I wondered about the journey that the females have to make in order to get to mate.
I hope you like the result.

This is an absolute riot :D I LOVE the multitude of surreal events breathlessly listed with a twist of contempt.
Guitar-playing hyenas serenaded peacocks under ice cream trees
Rabbits on table mats sold honey for sun-bathing bees
A circus of acrobats juggled three ballet-performing fleas
Jam-hamsters...
Hahahaa :D I can't believe this only got one comment! I proper enjoyed this, thank you for posting. I think it's brilliant.
