Hi, I really like this, the repetition of that one line is great, and the last stanza is really powerful, thanks for sharing :)

I appreciated the attention you paid to my sonnet and enjoyed your feedback. You're right, of course, about "crunching." I forced it a little.

I enjoyed that thoroughly (as much as such a thing can be enjoyed). The imagery was very potent, particularly the 8th and 9th stanza. The juxtaposition between the act itself and the sense of disgust your wording yielded made me appropriately queasy.

This is an emotive topic that has achieved
prominence in recent years. I wonder how much
damage is done by over-protective adults instilling feelings of guilt and fear where
they might have otherwise been passed by as
being of no importance by the child in its
many faceted experience of "growing up". I
grew up in the 1940s/50s, with a background
of boarding school (my mother was matron); village school (rural country life); then
grammar school. Talk and rumours about
behaviour that was experienced was widely
disseminated among the kids of those days,
with quick and knowing appreciation of what
was happening or likely to happen from any
given character (local and usually well known)
or circumstances. We knew about never taking sweets from strangers and were street wise yet
allowed to find our own way, adjusting our
experiences without the shrill guilt-ridden
over-protective adult stuff so prevalent these days. Is it not possible that these reactions
are more damaging long term than the suspected
things that kids are told happened to them
and for which they are now in the merciless
spotlight of other people "knowing"?
We must be careful to keep a balance - with the
child's peace of mind always paramount.

I'm content to let others judge TC's comments.
However, in the wider historical sense,
the "racial" aspect is exaggerated when this
phenomenon is more about power and influence under the banner of religion.
Any US reference to "thousands" dying would be
accurately found in the irresistible "go west"
expansion of immigrant arrivals after the Civil
War and the policy of slaughtering millions of
bison upon which the native American depended
for survival in large numbers. Death through
war and disease among them far exceeded the numbers deaths of blacks in comparable circumstances in US society thereafter.
On another level, I could take TC's opening lines and refer to the known and provable deeds of the Nazis ("Terrible")
and compare them with the "butchery" by Stalin's Russia of just about anyone.
But is that relevant to today's threat?

Thanks for your comments Preeti, we can but hope the elections don't place any power into the fascists hands - better a coalition of all other parties to make them totally clear on where they should stand - outside left behind the bike sheds... Best wishes, Dave

Terrible I know, but ISIS' atrocities pale in comparison to the butchery of white upon black in the USA, as recently as the 1980's. Thousands of black men women and children, butchered whilst alive in front of howling, jeering men, women and children. The audiences white, often middle-class and christian. The west was won by and rejoiced in such horror. Tommy

Our latest session on the 7th had a dozen performers and a handful of listeners. Self penned and other poetry was read and/or recited (and in one case written then recited!).
Plenty of chat and drinks available.
A great Saturday afternoon.
