Hi Dave, (John Doe) so many of these characters around and some actually began life with promising upbringings. Who knows where the decline began? Thanks for commenting.

Ha - do you dare me to post Chlamydia? That should grab attention. I should do it before they kill Gadaffi - if they haven't already done so - I'm a bit behind on the news...

Hi Lynn, thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated. It pointed me towards your work too, I like the political awareness in your writing, especially When the World Stood Still. makes you wonder if things run better when there is no government!

Four years ago I was working in Stockton, travelling up on Mondays and staying till Friday.
One Monday I woke up because I couldn't get the song "Moonlight and Roses" out of my head. So I thought, "I might as well set off early, have a coffee at a service station near Stockton".
When I got to the service station it was shut so I carried on to work.
Later that day I found out that there'd been a big accident just before the service station at just the time I would normally have been passing it.
"Moonlight and Roses" was my mother's favourite song.

Cheers P&S, I'll certainly try and post more here again, had a rather dodgy broadband connection for some time now, so I'm way behind on many sites.
Have you tried Fanbox.com? You can get paid for blogging there...

This may or may not be the crux of the problem. In truth the veterans just don't know why they are suffering so much. But we know, from our own experiences that we were exposed to something sinister. For myself, because there are so many incidents that have pervaded my life, I just don't know the truth. Some of those incidents, have led me to trust no-one, including those in authority positions who sit on high making policy. Conspiracies are very real, they do exist! But in not knowing the full truth each veteran is left to fill in the blanks themselves. And that in essence is also a form of torture. Things have happened to me that I just cannot explain, and now I sit nursing a broken spirit and battered soul. One day we may be given the truth, but until then, the conjecture and supposition will continue. We need the truth, plain as day, to settle what is a quarrelsome undertaking of life. This may be the crux of the problem, it may not. I was going to remove this verse, and if you wish I will do that. Just never forget that all that is taken for granted by the majority, be only a dream for the veterans now suffering, who are asking so many questions but getting no answers. We served in faith, we are suffering now. We were treated unfairly, and the sorrow in each one shines like a bright ball of hurt that will never go away. On this day, it is their day, it is a day of celebration. Had things been a little different, perhaps I would be waving the flag I served too. But as controversial as this piece is, I shall let it stay, in recognition of the veterans who only want answers. Be well, and Good luck.

Where all our inspirations go. When we can't think of what to write about we write about poetry (usally about not being able to write poetry!). Pope was no exception.

Christopher, I use other "stimulants", but, hey, whatever works for you!
Seriosly though, I enjoyed the poem; twice in fact. The first time I enjoyed the ride of the rhythm, the second the lyricism.
Keep posting.

Thanks Dave. I suspect the reference to Our Gert in A Wonderful Opportunity gave its authorship away!
The real vintage though is Bert Williams's - worth checking out on You Tube.
Curiously he blacked up as a Minstrel despite the fact that he was, himself, black!

Thank you so much everyone for your comments.
Thomas, strange you should mention musical chairs, I wrote one at the weekend called Musical Beds!
Lol, Isobel, we did go bed shopping too, as it happens, but didn't make quite such a spectacle of ourselves!
Bed hopping, Julian? Perhaps I should rename that poem! lol.
