All thanks for the kind comments. For those that guessed you're correct it's Porto cristo, although I think the ghost of a few ex holidays in Greece have influenced hence the Cohen reference!

Hi Phillip
Just came across your poem "Fishing For Fella's" which caught my eye because the title's very similar to one of mine called "Fishing for Poets".
My poem is autobiographical and I was the victim but I like your poem because you show the situation from another angle.
Thankyou for posting it up, it was good to read.

lovely poem Ray. Laughing at David's comments - Ray the Viking has a certain ring to it, a possible cousin for Erik maybe? And 'seriously its very difficult to get a license'. That's going to make we giggle all day. You guys. What are you like! Have a good one both. Col.

Also thoroughly enjoyed my 'glass of wine' (although I don't drink) and atmospheric 'visit' to your balcony. Thanks.

Thanks for the comment on my profile picture, Stu. I sketched that years ago when I was spending much too much time in solitude and it is one of the few things that survived my return to the world.
I hope things are going well with your writing, fella..it's very good to hear from you.

I don't normally do provocative material, but I thought this needed a mention!
Thanks Mark I already had this poem written, so timed it to coincide with the official snubbing.
Agreed Col. I do think she is a master of the little finger - a supreme actress of the semi smoulder. Perhaps we all need to use a little more charm in life to get what we want. It just seems as you say there is always some grandiose scheme going on. Funny ole world aint it!
The plot deepens Greg. There was promise of government backing of a substantial amount, so that makes sense, he would have ok'd this. I think we need a second job like George. Thanks for commenting.
Cheers Paul. I do admire her spunkiness - but I havn't seen that programme . She does mean well obviously but come on darling!! Aythangyow.
Thanks for the likes, Stu and Michaela, appreciated.

I like this Desmond. Welcome to WoL. In a strange way it reminds me of the poem I have just posted. I assume 'Harvest' is the title? If so, you can click Edit and add the title at the top of the Update Entry form if you so wish. All the best, Colin.

Congrats! And thanks for the associated chuckle.
To adapt a "song n'dance" film title of my youth:
It's always fair weather -
When a marriage stays together.
You are forgiven the odd ding-dong
Putting up with each other for so long.
So as the years gently advance,
Step out to the same old song n'dance!

Mmm lovely Tom, nicely evocative, tinged with sadness. Kind of your speciality I think.
Wee typo though - 'whose' - should that not be 'who've?

I absolutely love this Cynthia. The story-telling - my Dad was a natural story-teller too, and had so many of them to tell, each time embellished a little more. There are some exquisite lines in here:
We were practically crawling into her mouth
even though we'd heard this story dozens of times.
She always had a fresh word, or a new shape to her mobile lips
and the humour too - I did laugh ?
The notion of empowering your daughters this way really moves me. I was never empowered, but I made damned sure my own daughter was.
This has brightened my morning, thank you.

We have an expression (I don't know if it's just a local thing) for seagull incidents. "shit for luck". Never been more appropriate.

Well, I certainly did enjoy it... thank you for sharing such a lovely atmospheric journey to grandma's house.
Your free verse has reminded me of one of my poems in my 1968 notebook - which I still have!
I'll share it and hopefully someone will enjoy it...

Bitter sweet and a little self pity in a finely conceived poem.
Hope and promise in the first verse, disillusionment in the second, and resolve in the third is my view. Pretty similar to Colin's reckoning.
Keep this up when you feel the inspiration Michaela.

It feels with your poems that time just suspends and allows for details to be revealed - a great trick and an enviable one Tom. A sense of mystery pervades and also timelessness.
I Can't praise it enough. POTW or i'm a Dutchman.

Hello David
The vivid imagery took me back to my own camping experiences - what it's like to spend a night out under the stars. Really liked that line: The day slowly waking up to carry on as it did yesterday. And those audacious line-breaks I usually can't manage, well they're not planned are they?
