Thank you Ann and Andy. I loved the teeth bit too! It really shows you that a child wrote it. Funnily enough I don't have to nag her Andy - she just loves books and writing - her only problem is that she has too many all on the go at once. I only ever read one at a time - I can't multi read.
Thanks again all. xx

Tes, daughters are cleaver things when they choose. Mine is also 10. Should there be a section for younger members? now there's a thing! I thought we decided that this is not an adult site but that it was ok for young adults if supervised. Win x

Thanks to both of you. Yes I am proud. The only help I gave was to type it up and lay it out the way a poem would be - I added the ellipsis. The words and ideas are 100% hers. It will be marvellous to see how her poetry develops in the future. So far she seems to be the only one who has inherited my love of language and capacity to day dream... essential things for a poet I think - though I'm not sure it gets us far in life!
xx

Hello Elaine - I enjoyed your poetry. Welcome to WOL - hopefully I will get to hear you one day - you seem local enough - I would describe myself as equi distant to those 2 cities. If you are looking for venues, do try out the Tudor in Wigan, 2nd Thursday of every month. x

Hi Elaine, welcome to WOL! really enjoyed these two different styles of poems, the first a day most people can identify with and very well described; the second a beautifully written poem of love, look forward to reading more Jeff X

The last four words hit with meaning, almost like a blow inside the reader's head. The banal and the tragic live side by side: the small triumph of finding enough change juxtaposed with the fragile figure, conjured up by the words "prone in a paper-thin gown". The control we like to think we have in life is revealed as ultimately futile. I very much appreciate this poem.

An incredibly powerful poem James. I too like the way you have said so much with so little and mixed the momentous with the insignificant. It is amazing how in real life, one can focus on the stray thread of a garment or the slightest bump on the wallpaper whilst going through the most excruciating hell. Your poem sums that up neatly.

I like your elliptical style which captures the way ordinary and extraordinary moments in our lives mingle and you have packed a lot in to a small poem which is something I value in a poet.

I like the allusions this brings about - your choice of words is very interesting - Groping, 'frisson of fear', fluff, detect, final, prone, 'thinking about buying time....'

This is good. I like unfussy language in poetry, it can be very effective. Also, this tells a story but keeps just enough 'below the waterline', so to speak. Good job.

old school application of last minute pen and paper rush to create the masterpiece of an era known collectively as the 'letters to a gimp'.
Witnessed here by Michael Wilson who has been known to make his own honest little master works in a similar 'write it at the gig' last minute fashion.
'spontanaeity sponsors do it fasterer'.

Hi Isobel; - glad you like my 'bite the bullet' - has took a few drafts and weeks to get to the bottom of this piece.. at one point - it nearly became two poems (i am sure you can work out which bits for yourself) but pleased you like it! (do have a few lil edits I want to make to it still but wanted to get it on here then emailed to Dave tonight) x

The long awaited bullet hits us!
Love the twist at the end Andy - twas most unexpected. Perhaps she was so exhilerated after finishing off her hubbie, she burst a blood vessel with the joy. I like the uncertainty of it all. It reads a bit like a Scarpetta novel... it is such a different take on the theme! x

Nice snapshot memory here, Georgina... 'Boys like dogs on their hind legs' is my favourite line but I like the full piece, as it only tells us part of the story and leaves it to the rest of us to fill in the blanks.. top one!
Comment is about House Party ('09). (blog)
has a song like quality here, steve which would work with the last line certainly, but in the form of a poetry, it's probably too much with the extra 'How' I feel.
I particularly like gotta say 'How long can I deny the weeping eye?'
Nice stuff..

Yes! I agree. We have to be strong so that to survive in this world. I wouldn't like to speak about respect. To my opinion it has nothing to do with being strong. I don't really care what a gray mouse think about me, and I don't need his or her respect. I wonder what my friends think about me and those I respect. But! I am a woman and you are a man. Right? Even at my age I still don't know if I am strong or weak. There are so many different situations in life. Sometimes I win, sometimes lose.

Hi larisa - I suppose being strong is what we have to be most of the time as people seem to respect it more - as long as it doesn't turn us into horrible people!!
