Hi captain, was really interested reading this, although like Tim, I think as a poetry type blog you could cut out quite a lot of lines to increase the impact e.g leaving work at 12.30 etc, that would have been fine as a newspaper report.
Anyway, apart from that well done, some good lines and hope you've calmed down from the excitement of it all! Cheers Jeff

Very clever and observational yet could still be very personal. One of those poems which i think most people can relate to in several ways. Man or woman matters not. :-)

Hi Paul,
i like the range of emotions running through this,
although it's quite shocking, i can feel the panic rising and the striving for calm.
Nice one.

Clever use of imagery, Sian...
"All I see are thorns
hooking my skin
and another empty promise
in a vase."
Liked this poem very much. Have to say though, it irks me as a man, to see how many poems generally have the 'men are b******* who will let you down and hurt you' as a dominant theme.

Like this , just smal thing in V2:
A possessed of all 'that' paradox, is the only line I have problems with . 'A' is confusing and don't need to put 'that ' in apostrophes s it disturbs the flow.

This is so simple yet so profound. It is almost as if you speak to each reader directly, well it certainly speaks to me. It describes me at one stage in my life and it is accurate, which is why this touched me, really did.
I very rarely come across a poem which almost feels as if it is about me or my life at a certain point in the past : )
Some would say that it is slightly cliched (eg 'Feelings, Reduced to tears') but I still think that within the framework and boundary it works well. Cliches used well can work and they do here.
You seem like a writer of experience and I look forward to reading more of your work. What I like is the succint nature of this and it does not baffle the reader with images leading to frustration.
Thank you ( what would we do without words hey)

Francine,
Thank you for your lovely comment :0). I think you are right in your observation between the title and the last line in certain respects. It was included as a relationship of the witness being changed forever as a person, to be wearing that pain on his soul like a scar of shame for the lord to see. I may edit a little.... :0)

Bienvenue à WOL!
If I may... I love your poem 'I saw your pain'
It is nicely written with a lot of emotion,
however if you dropped the last line completely it would have so much more of an impact because the title reflects your feelings as does the poem itself... : )

Hi John,
thanks for your comment on 'Anemone.'
Perhaps the reason you liked it is because it's unassuming with a delicate approach towards the changing landscape. A kind of gentle acceptance of growing up. It's based on a park i played in as a child where i still walk through. It always evokes a lovely memory even though some of the changes weren't welcome, at least it is still there for me and future generations too. :-) nostalgia. You just can't beat it.

Whilst I was reading this - the phrase that kept coming to mind was 'O brave, new world...'.
1984 has been and gone, and the reality is far more prosaic and predictable than predicted .... Not a cheery vision of the future, but accurate and well written.

Pete man, I sense this poem. I feel it to be one of your better ones. It has so much emotion and yes, pain! Yes, it imbues upon me a last request, in lasting haunting words that make me feel fearful for the authors well being. It also emulates a lot of what people are really feeling at the moment. Outstanding work that I wish the powers that be could take note of. As this reflects an auful lot about the time we live.
Realistic and crytstal clear, the clarity of such a tired person, a tired human being cannot go unnoticed much longer.

Hi Pete,
This prompted some very deep thoughts from within me. I'm still scanning through the reel of film in my mind.
Maybe, no matter how insignificant a life appears to be, the memory of what we meant to others and the significance of that life for others is all we need to know for now.
Perhaps the container for the remains, ashes, bones or whatever else we choose to save acts as a kind of time capsule for others to discover and wonder about or recall a memory in times of need.
See, you've done it again.
Got me thinking. :-)
Well done Pete, i love this poem.

What price freedom indeed!
Your poem encapsulates the need for equilibrium. Significant of the equinox which ideally would be all year round for the economy.
Very thought provoking and so much depth, like Pete i think it's quite haunting.

A classic poem of alienation..." I see for every light a dulled soul awaiting death" ... powerful imagery. And there is hope in the piece too, with the fleeting reference to freedom. The best poetry is serious about the human condition, and I like this very much, Mike.

All poems should contain elements of the personal (other wise they'd be pretty poor) and should be honest but a poem should also contain elements from the real world, pimped up language, metaphors etc. I'm not criticising you personally, or your experience, but the poem itself.
