A thoughtful but scary poem John. It is funny how little we start to record our own lives once we have children. It all becomes about someone else and that middle bit of our lives gets swallowed up by all the stuff in the 4th verse of your poem - building a nest for children...
I'm hoping my life doesn't drip, drip away too soon - I've only just kick started it again LOL. I love your observations. x

Yes - I loved the contrasts in this poem. It performed really well at the Tudor and resonated with the audience. I like the way you turn the nostalgia on its head at the end. We were all expecting a nice sentimental poem bemoaning the loss of your mam - what we got was comedy - a good laugh. Not trying to diss the relationship you had with your mum. I'm sure it was a good one - I just enjoyed the humour you injected into what could have been a sad poem.

Hi Ann - loved the rugged sense so well portrayed in this which captures the scene brilliantly - made me wonder how a townie like me would cope - and I sensed a tingle across my shoulders - brill.

Hi Greg - thanks for your comments on London Tube Map - underground trains are certainly spooky at night - writing about the map brought on other thoughts allied to claustrophobia such as getting stuck in a tube tunnel when powers fails - yuk

'I thought about the pieces
that fell away from my life
to leave me with nothing.'
'I have lost myself
because I can’t see past where I am.'

love this 'their bodies full of greeny briny bonded claws and cannibal eyes' and the whole poem is brilliantly evocative,
Picking up on the comment of Winston I always feel it is better to cut down on the non essential adjectives so the others stand out, but on the other hand I like the complete picture this builds up
In general I love the 'painterly' effect of the poems of yours I've read. it's a delight to come across these and I shall be folowiing your work

These lines stand out and say it all...
'taking on
the yearnful soul of everyone
who looms into my sight
like a softly psychic sponge'
'For everybody's pent-up pain
pervades my path
invades my throne
cuts my fusion to the bone'
