Right on! As my own late brother remarked not long before his passing: life is for living. How right he was - and is! Let us welcome each day as a gift, a free pass to whatever we can make of it. We
can take so much for granted but life shouldn't be treated that way.
It is - good and bad - something we are "gifted", so let's rejoice and
make the best of it within our ability to do so.

Beautifully forcefully and directly put as always Keith. I think this poem may resonate with many people in many different ways regardless of their own identity. I particularly like the whole notion of that which is put upon us by others.
Thanks for posting this.
Blessings to you my friend

Thank you, Tim. The poor bloke waddling across the West Ham pitch in late December sleet did seem to sum up the pointlessness of it all. (Come to think of it, West Ham were often pointless!)

Magic moments disguised as normal behaviour like this can reveal so much Martin. There is a sort of verbal juggling in a gentle way without commitment. Nicely observed.

Thanks, Ray. Yes, there was a lot of streaking, some more successful than others. I remember one poor bloke at a cricket match who fell over and didn't even get onto the field before he was apprehended.
Thanks to everyone else for the likes.

An intriguing social commentary on left field indulgences. It seemed to happen at that time, perhaps as a backlash against accepted norms. I was at a gig once where a musician did the same thing - firmly down to drink of course. Nice revisit Stephen.

This bought me sharply up to consider what is the "real world," is it nature or the control of it Julie. Often there is no beauty in functionality sadly. It reminds me of a gig I did in a carpet warehouse, no atmosphere.

In my job, when I worked, I visited many places all over the country but often never actually saw any of the town or city centres. Instead it was depots or offices on trading estates. As you say Julie, bland and grey.

Ray - this is a wonderful piece. There are some cracking rhymes placed ever so perfectly, it works really well. I love the word 'zither', how it feels in the mouth. It's a sonic delight of a poem.

Hey, thanks everyone, appreciate you taking the time to read and comment.
I've changed the title now, remembered I already had one titled 'Care' in my last book. Have also edited the ending - wasn't quite happy with it.
I thought working conditions in call centres were bad. They're like a holiday compared to care work. It's a sad sick depressing industry, and one which we are all likely to be needing at some point, for our family and/or ourselves. It's an absolute disgrace, and needs properly nationalising.

My dad was a great fan of the zither music in The Third Man, Ray - one of the films he watched in the five years after he returned from the war and before he got married. For some reason his cultural interests ended after that!

Those of us of a certain age remember fondly the zither music from The Third Man, but that's really our only experience of the instrument. I guess it's one of those things that is set firmly in central/eastern Europe.

Graham, late to the plate. I've been stressed out but I seem to be in the clear after tests! Thanks so much for coming through on this. It seems i'm typical of that generation. Music can be shared in silence and he taught me by demonstration at the piano!

Thank you for this wonderful poem, Laura. It needed writing.
My mother and my Mother-in-law had to rely on the care system for years and this rings so true. Most of the carers do a great job in difficult circumstances and with terrible conditions. It still makes me angry.

Probably the most famous instrumentalist of his time, his music
captured in a haunting theme that accompanied a famous film into
cinematic and musical history. Instantly recognisable to those of
a certain generation and most real film fans.
