Dorothy,
I think the discussion area is the place for this topic. This poem came from a thread there. The 5WH challenge. A new discussion can be started if you choose. I just felt compelled to post it here because of all the religious and anti religious stuff that has been put up lately.

Thank you so much Martin! I'm happy to hear you picked up on that! Both characters are controversial , I think, in actuality and in my poem. Maybe the man knows less than he thinks, maybe more than a hot blooded youth who wants to prove himself... I like the idea of non resolution and a bitter, non glorious frustrating ending!
Thank you again?

I like to keep my options open and I encourage others to the same. I certainly mean no offense to any one. We can all politely agree to disagree. There are a lot of poems here about "God" and a lot of poems about "no God". Wars are forever being waged over differences of beliefs. That, to me, makes none of them the "right one." What I wrote are questions we all ask.

I thought this was about Alexander the great as I read it through. I particularly love the fourth stanza which poses the question what does man know. What indeed does he know. I would suggest a lot less than he thinks.
I love the way you have written this Mae with almost a fairy tale like quality to it or perhaps that of an ancient poem.
Very nice

It often makes me wonder if in twenty years time all those with tattoos may reconsider their move into skin art. Particularly those who bear the names of those who are no longer loved ones

Good poem D.K.

Me again, ten years later! And look at Kealan, and Janet and Dave! They were such fine friends to share a new 'enterprise' with.

I'm so glad you're still 'on board' too. Where have ten years gone?

Wonderful.

I actually have a recent poem that refers to 'Hiawatha' also. It's finished, but I haven't yet decided to share. Coincidence sometimes boggles my mind! Who else has specifically used 'Hiawatha'! Anywhere! Let alone on WOL! I'm not too sure about using it now. It might look copy-cat. And you know me - HORRORS!

As a teenager, I loved that poem! It's ingrained in my very soul.

How did you bring up 2009? How did I not respond way back then?

To win a game of Limbo
Seek heavenly reward
You gotta stoop real bloody low
And backward go, not forward

Who said anything 'bout religion ?

Holly celebs must wail and weep
To see their fortunes sag
They used to bounce in front so proud
But now sag like a bag

Yes indeed, they wail and weep
"I spent a fortune on them"
Now look what they've gone done to me
No longer shining gems......

Probably best that I don't discuss my attitude towards religion, but much like Ricky Gervais once said in an interview, "There are a couple of thousand God's around the world and if you're a Christian, for example, you don't believe in 1,999 of them. Well I don't believe in just one more."

Limbo..that's the game where you see how low you can go, right?
That's ONE reason why I'm not Catholic anymore!
There's not enough space here to get into all the other reasons.
Rubbish

Sign upon the door says 'Limbo'
Can't see no-one dancing round??

Is this someone's prankish joke?
(Limbo high and limbo low)
No my child you have no faith
Trouble is you've not sinned - so

Here you sits in limbo land

We did have that conversation, and thank goodness, too, for the breathing room--I don't often de-constrict those airways )

The Dylan is great (pretty magnificent, tbh) and I can believe that NY would do it like only he could. It's quite something to see that Sam Shephard was a co-writer. I've always enjoyed watching him--some of the characters he played seemed so familiar, like people I could've known.

Thanks for looking in and for the song, David--what a piece of heaven.

Tom,

Thank you for posting a comment on my profile. I have had numerous conversations with various people on the subject of writing. I use a pen as I feel it is an extension of who I am in a physical sense. From my mind, through my arm and to my hand I write what is within me. There seems to be an innate connection which I find difficult to describe. I find computers and their keyboards quite impersonal as one is always concious of making typographical errors and therefore the natural flow of writing by hand is somehow interrupted. We spend a good deal of time peering at screens which flicker and after a while can irritate the eyes, whereas the printed word on paper is less invasive.

I enjoyed your poem "You are my Priest". An interesting poem.

Tom. After further review (I listened to all of your audio tracks) I noticed that "Anatomy of Longing" did not load completely and thus did not play to finish. All of the other tracks played fine, for me. I liked the tracks with background noise and music a lot. Are you a musician also? Did you create those background tracks? Just curious. Hope this helps with your technical issues. ?

Thank you Mindy! I write all kinds of things, some of them are consisted by monologues and dialogues... who knows! Actually it wasn't entirely made up. It was based on a anecdote of Ancient Greek History. It is said that Alexander the Great heard of this famous philosopher who lived a very frugal life. Diogenes who was a "cynic" as philosophic currents go lived in an urn, for reasons I don't recall... Alexander had heard of the sage and wanted to meet him. Diogenes was haughty and didn't seem impressed at all by the young monarch and Alexander was taken by that! After a short encounter Alexander asked if there was anything he could do for the wise man as a token of admiration and Diogenes said something along the lines of" Step out of the sun!" Which prompted the infamous (at least where I live) statement: Don't deprive me of what you can't offer me!"
The dialogue I wrote of course has nothing to do with the actual anecdote the facts, or the two particular individuals, it's just a dialogue I pictured in my head. For me they are two crazy people each.for their own reasons both with power in their hands... One is abusing it and the other refuses to use it at all.
Thank you Mindy?
Mae
