I like my poems short, sweet and simple
Like Tommy's that make myself think
The trouble with words coming going
Some nice ones have gone down the sink
glug glug ?

Well I love it Ray it has a certain earthy street quality to it with a strange kind of innocence. Not sure whether I am conveying any sense her Ray. But I like it a lot.

HI folks. I decided to rehash my poem from yesterday as my thoughts were tangled and perhaps too "poetic." I hope this may serve a purpose in its place.

The last thousand years of history in these islands have been singularly affected by the Norman invasion and its gradual
assimilation into the existing predominantly Anglo-Saxon population.
Other incomings have been small and barely registered on the
(modest) population, from whatever source they came, limited of
course, by the difficulties that travel and cost presented. Their
accommodation was slow and less than intrusive since they had
every wish to be accepted and worked to achieve that result.
The "English" identity has been a source of humour, with the
world - often with a touch of envy - joking about our various odd
traits...love of cricket, tea, warm beer, hail fellow well met...fair
play, and, of course, those old chestnuts...class and retention of
the monarchy when the rest of the world was "going republic".
We are still welcoming incomers but it is disingenuous to assume
things are on the previous footing and scale. Any optimistic
preaching how things should be (always a personal position)
is connected to what can be made acceptable for the host nation
in well meant efforts to help the more mobile transients while
preserving its own precious sense of identity. That is the concern
during these days of mass migration, occurring for whatever reason. These islands already support a population equal to that of France. Check the difference in the size of the two nations.

The ones that deserve to be happy,
Will someday be glad,
The ones that are nasty,
Will someday be sad.

Crows are known to test the range of shotguns by repeatedly gliding within range only to pull up at the last moment at the sound of buckshot.
Crows can sled for fun, they can use tools to obtain food, and they can speak languages if taught to.
I wonder what most people would do with this information? Oh yeah, nothing.
Great piece.?

The bathos is intoxicating, but the truth cuts like a macuahuitl. Life is easily devalued by those lacking in any basic notion of morality, and at times of war or strife, it is the most vulnerable of a community that suffer the most and pay the highest price.
The Nanking (Nanjing) Massacre is testament to this.
I truly hope to see your work published widely. It would be a sin not to.?

You write a story for so many. It truly sicken me how this STILL goes on while others complain about mundane things. Wasn't "slavery" outlawed centuries ago? Yet, it still goes on while we grow further and further apart from humanity.
I pray that we Will Wake Up!

A brutal coughing fit:
Sol doubled hawking blood,
wiped his mouth... glided on
Reminds me of my dad. I liked the contrast in 'glide'. I wish I could glide like that.
Well done Rick and belated happy Hanukkah. I love that the festival of light happens in the darkness!

Thank you so much Taylor. I wrote this to Tia Torres. She has a reality show to help pay for her pit bull rescue. I am addicted to her show. What they do for dogs is remarkable.
I have been afraid of large dogs...pit bulls at the top of the list. I was attacked by a dog 30 years ago. I still struggle with the injuries. Tia is responsible with that breed. She is aware they need experienced owners and matches up adoptee with dog. If a dog is truly a danger she does euthanize them. Bad breeding is a reality.
Her family works with her as do parolees which explains the "behind cold steel bars" That speaks to the parolees and the dogs in her kennels. She is truly inspiring.

Brian, thanks for recognizing the symptoms. No escaping the needs, but just a thought - apparently the only part of the outfit that can't be recycled is the plastic I believe, so there we go again.
Thanks Alan, I agree with that. Imagine one day the swamp thing rising up from the detritus. Gawd 'elp us.
A salutary comment David. There's just no winning from certain perspectives. Thanks.

It sticks in my mind from way back (in more innocent youth) that the
road to "salvation" is a rocky one. None can deny the human imperative to improve one's lot, but the host's reality is often more
prosaic - how often and how many? These islands - like a life
form - have an identity and a capacity that need to be constantly
addressed and safeguarded. We cannot solve the problems of the
world - and certainly not one which has numerous places of safety
and sanctuary to stand alongside our own shrinking confines.

Leaving aside the various religious teachings and beliefs - it may be
argued with some degree of reality that "God" is an invention of the
human hope for some omniponent presence that embodies the
best of love and care, tempered with righteous retribution for evil.
Once upon a time.....

Fire and life...those often uncontrolled (and uncontrollable) sources
of comfort and consternation. They can provide or they can take
away - and need careful handling at all times. There's no room
for messing-up or you WILL get burned.
In purely inventive terms, fire and the wheel are top candidates for
human ingenuity, and Man's best friend, the dog, soon came in
from the cold to add so much more of value to his existence.

Having read this book, I have to say I agree wholeheartedly with this review. 'Moses' is a gem of a poem, taking the unpromising subject of Home Office treatment of asylum seekers and creating a beautifully observed, delicately handled, personal tale. The rest of the book is just as good. A superb collection.
